I've used the free Shields Up port testing for many, many years. It is a tribute to the stability and reliability of Mr. Gibson that he has continued to operate this service longer than most web security services have even existed.

It is a really good security site- BUT apparently it hasn't been updated enough. You will regularly find material on there that is 10-15 years old. In tech terms that is an eternity!

Very useful, I love Steve Gibson, and all the tools on the website take great care to protect your privacy. They really don't collect any discernable analytics, atleast not from a third party.

I cannot begin to explain how much this site has helped me!
It may be old – and most things are outdated. However – the man who created this site is a genius. His encryption skills are amazing and still benefit many today. He has a program called Ultra High Security Password Generator with between 63 and 64 character passwords. I use his passwords with both Hushmail and TrueCrypt. The passwords are virtually uncrackable.

Steve Gibson's GRC is home to the one and only SpinRite program that maintains and recovers broken down hard drives.
