Don't be fooled by the cheap price! this company is a real SCAM , I rented a car for a day in Fuerteventura just to go back to the hotel and to the airport so I didn't bother to get the extortionary 鈧?6 of full day cover insurance. I returned the car an the employee at the check out in car park checked the car and the fuel and told us that everything was fine and we could go. 5 days after I see the 鈧?180 deposit in my credit card paid!!! I call them and the useless customer care tells me to wait few more days to process the refund, DAY 11 I call again and they more useless and rude customer care tells me that they have taken the deposit because the damage on the front bumper?!?!?! Never received any communication about it and I also have all the pictures proving the damages on the car. I have now call my credit card to open a dispute and sent a complaint on their GOLDCAR website. I will take this further and make sure they pay for the damages they cause to their victims/customer.
ABSOLUTELY SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM stay away let make them fail. Pay a bit more and go with Hertz or other reputable companies.

Don鈥檛 hire from GoldCar! We hired a car for 2 weeks in October from the airport in Palma de mallorca. Upon arrival we had to wait a significant amount of time to be able to pick up our car. The staff were partially rude especially when you don鈥檛 want to take any insurance cover out, basically insisting that you have to. We did not. Then we had a nightmare with cards where they said they don鈥檛 take American Express and wouldn鈥檛 accept any other form of credit card that we had. They then took the full deposit from a debit card, which apparently incurred a higher deposit amount which was not explained whatsoever, the lady was so pushy and grumpy so we ended up being charged approx 拢1450!! This was where we hit the main problem. The deposit was taken from us in GBP which we did not request and we鈥檙e not given an option to pay in euros, hence when our deposit for both the car and petrol was returned to us, we were short by 拢70 (which was more than the hire itself!). This was because they charged an ridiculous mark up!!! We were not notified of the exchange rate, to GBP, or the exchange rate mark up, which they are required to disclose by law under the Payments Service Directive 2, Article 59 (1 & 2). This was not covered verbally, on the point of sale or detailed on the contract documentation that they provided us.

We have contacted gold car nearly 4 weeks ago and still haven鈥檛 heard anything back even after sending chasers. We will be escalating this if we don鈥檛 hear anything in the next week as they are clearly misleading and disadvantaging customers illegally. We have hired two more cars on the island since this booking and have avoided GoldCar for good reason!

The prices they give are not real.
When you book the car then comes a voucher that says if you don't have credit card You cannot leave deposit in cash or with a debit card, so you have to pay full insurance plus vat which in my case i rented a car for a week for 18 euros then i had to pay 190 euros for full insurance!!
The staff are not nice at all , very uninspired and dry..
so I recommend another rental company.

AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID… EVERYTHING YOU READ IN ALL THESE REVIEWS ON TRUSTPILOT AND OTHER SITES IS PROBABLY 100% ACCURATE OF THE KIND OF COMPANY YOU WILL BE DEALING WITH. MY CREDIT CARD IS STILL HURTING WITH ALL THE SCAMMED EXTRAS THEY CHARGED TO IT. I WAS FULLY WARNED ABOUT THEM BEFOREHAND, SO I BOOKED WITH RHODIUM… DIDNT REALISE THEY WERE THE SAME COMPANY. SHOULD BE CALLED RODEO… JUDGING BY THE RIDE THEY TOOK ME ON.

Do not under any circumstances use this company, they are crooks, they have not returned my deposit since September 22nd 2020, nor given me an explanation why not. Their operative on the ground at Izmir airport also bullied me out of a further 拢107 by forcing me to take out insurance I had already got. It was that or not get my car!

This company is destroying my vacation. We were so unlucky to have all our stuff stolen at a break in (smashed window) to the car in Nafplio. We had full insurance on the car so we called, called and called. No answers at customers service from around 15-21.30. During this time we went to the police etc. We got in contact with their who were empathetic but said they couldn鈥檛 help since the car wasn鈥檛 crashed. So we started driving back towards Athens, finally got in contact with a lady who said they had no cars to give is until the next day, even though this service should be included in the insurance. We went the next day, their policy is you can鈥檛 get money back if you cancel before the planned time. So we had to either suffer the loss or replan a vacation that we just had to cancel our bookings because we had to go back. So we decide it鈥檚 still worth it to make new plans for the coming days. We get a new float and go back to we鈥檙e we stayed to repack. As we parked we se that the plastic is hanging down in the front. We try to call again.. no answer. So we realise we have to go back because the plastic could fall off. One more day lost. Once we get back to the place the the lady asks us: 鈥渄o you have a problem driving?鈥? Clearly no respect for road safety. Then she agrees to give us another one, but says we need to refuel the car.. the car we only used going back and forth from their shop! The freakin鈥?nerve. So that鈥檚 the policy to expect from them. The next car we got had a dent in the back. Lots of waisted time and money. Lost money for fuel and tools and cancelling and rebooking twice too! Don鈥檛 use this company!

Thieves. There are different kind of thieves. The obvious ones with scarred cheeks and tattooed tears, and the smiley, friendly looking ones, dressed in suits and white shirts sitting at nice desks – just like the GOLDSTAR customer service. Opportunistic thieves, the GOLDSTAR Thessaloniki guys take your credit card details, wait until you return the car in perfect condition and clean, sign the contract without objections. And only then, the second day after you've left, the sneakily hit you with an overcharge – that's how thieves make their money.
GOLDCAR – a Short sighted failed business, soon bankrupt.

Hired a car from Alicante airport for 1 week. Having hired many cars before from Alicante I am fully aware of the usual hazards, such as lying to pay for extra insurance and fuel policies. However, didn't expect to be forced to pay for an "upgrade" disguised as a tax. (Essay alert)

Having waited ~30mins to be served (which is good for Goldcar), the rep Roberto, angry for me having refused the insurance, decided to claim there was an additional tax to pay on top of the original booking fee.
My booking T&Cs explicitly included all local taxes and airport fees, but Roberto refused to acknowledge this as it was booked through 3rd party. Having spent 10-15 minutes arguing the point and almost walking away (but deciding it wasnt worth the lost booking fee/hassle), I paid the "tax" and collected the keys/paperwork and was hurried away and next customer called. Only when i opened my booklet with the receipt did i see that in fact he had instead forced me to pay for an upgrade i didnt want or need. I returned to the desk which had a 45 minute q and cut in between serving (which i regret having to do) to confront him.

After asking why he upgraded me and for him to refund the money and give me the original car he acknowledged what had happened (though claiming he explained at the time the cost was for the "car + tax" as if that made it clear that it was an upgrade?!?!)
However he told me to get to the back of the queue and he would sort it once i waited to be served. Having at this point spent over an hour in the process I decided it was not worth any more of my time and drove off in my upgraded, dented and scratched Fiat 500 feeling conned, angry and ashamed.

Lesson learned: check paperwork before paying and at the desk… And most importantly, NEVER BOOK WITH GOLDCAR!

I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully help others.
I do not suggest to rent from Goldcar (I assume Interrent as well since they are the same company).
It's just not worth the hassle and stress.
They attract you with a lower price then try to scam you in every way.

I went to pick up the rental from Barcelona airport. Lady at the counter try to sell me the usual insurance coverage which I refused. She was not happy then said the car I rented was a diesel therefore I need to pay extra 50eur. I explained that I did not specify for diesel. She insisted that it is the only available option in the group that I booked which was a larger car. She saw that I had my family with me and said if I don't pay the extra 50eur then she can change to a small gasoline car. I asked what those options were then she said if she changes to a gasoline car then there will be an even higher fee for changing the reservation so it didn't make sense to pay more for a smaller car. I told her that I heard and experienced this scam before and I even told her on their T&C it clearly says:

"The ExtraDiesel surcharge could be applied if the customer voluntarily requests a vehicle running on diesel fuel, for 2.5 euros per rental day. If there are only diesel cars in the Group chosen by the customer, at the pick-up time, this charge will not apply."

She got really upset when I challenged her and said it doesn't matter and its different this time and she will not release the car unless I pay or I can wait until 11pm with my young children until they close. Her colleague at the next counter suggested that I pay the extra 50eur since I needed the car and had young children with me. She said I can call customer service after to request for the refund and it's just her colleague's job to charge the extra. They are blatantly scamming even when it's against their T&C.
They knew I couldn't cancel the res and get my money back without a lot of hassle and I was under pressure to get the car with the young children.

I later called customer service and spoke to a rep who confirmed I shouldn't need to pay for the diesel fee according to the T&C. He said I should get a refund at the counter and also asked me to write to their info goldcar.com email address which I did.

After returning the car I went to the counter to request for the refund but the rep just said they do not do refunds anymore. I told him I have gotten a refund before but he just gave me the run around saying they now need a special password that only the rep who issued rental has. I asked if he was telling the truth and he just said he can say whatever he wants. He told me to go and call customer service for the refund. I called customer service on the spot and the person over the phone also gave me the run around and said I needed to wait for the email reply and he doesn't know if/how I will get the refund. It doesn't seem like they want to resolve it after scamming the 50eur or they try to make it as difficult as possible.

What's worst is that after I returned the car they try to blame me for an existing damage. When I checked out the car I mentioned about all the dents and scratches and the gas not being completely full. The clerk said its ok since its an old car and just told me to take a pics and the gas tank meter. I explained it to the check-in clerk but he said there's a small dent on the bumper which we both agreed looked like an old damage. Still he asked me to fill out an accident form, provide my passport and license and signature. I asked if it was necessary since we just agreed that the damage was old. He then said I can go which I assumed everything was ok.
Nonetheless, I later received an email asking for the same time. Which I replied with the same explanation. Then I later found out they took 250eur off my credit card without my approval.

Now I am just trying to settle with my credit card or possibly reach out to their top management.

It just unlawful for them to con you for the diesel charges even when you tell them its clearly stated not necessary on their T&C. Then bill you for existing damages on an old car. I have a feeling many others must have fell for the same tricks.
I hope this can help future potential customers.

Will definitely avoid them in the future.
Their reps will try to scam you and they have the rudest and offensive behavior. Sometimes you wonder if they are trained to treated their customers in such ways since they know you will have a hard time cancelling the reservations.
I know times are tough during COVID but its just unethical what they are doing to cheat your hard earned money.

Avoid at all costs. I checked my credit card a few days after returning the hire car (a banged up Astra when I picked it up) to see if Goldcar had refunded my Fuel as I'd filled the tank. Instead I found they had charged a further 拢736 with no correspondence to say why. I have now got to attempt to get back the money they appear to have stolen from me. I have used them for a number of years so hadn't checked reviews – having now checked I am not alone in this experience. This is a very shady outfit and you use them at your own peril.

Goldcars employees at the airport in Split, exposed both me and several other customers to pure lies, just because they wanted us to buy their supplementary insurance. When several of us explained that we had already taken out extra insurance, the staff countered that that insurance would not cover all costs, that the Croatian police charge fees that only cover Goldcar's insurance (which is nonsense), that over 1400 euros will locked on our credit cards for one month if we choose another insurance policy. Incredibly lousy of a large company to deceive its customers in that way. Most of us felt compelled to take out Goldcar's supplementary insurance for 170 euros, even though we had bought insurance earlier. It was impossible for us to verify all the allegations made by Goldcar's employees. We had families waiting and we just wanted to go to our vacation destination.

**Beware they are thieves ***
When I was looking to hire I actually chose Argus on the back of their apparent good reviews on Trustpilot for a hire in Palma Majorca recently. When the contract came through I was surprised to find the actual provider was Goldcar which had many poor reviews re added hidden charges etc (seems Argus are only a broker).. but it was late in the day and I just went with it. Despite having an agreement with Argus when I saw my statement sure enough there were loads of hidden unrequested charges from Goldcar, making it more then double the Eur 82 agreed with Argus.. my fault I hadn't scrutinised the contract on picking the keys up yes… but it was late at night, I was tired and nothing was explained to me, plus I thought I had a binding contract with Argus.
I rang Goldcar customer services asking for an explanation and was told to email them with the details which I did… three weeks ago since when I have heard nothing!

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST . I recently rented a car from Goldcar, before leaving the parking lot I videoed round the car note every mark and scratch . On my return I did the same process and it was exactly the same condition. I asked someone from the office to check the car but they refused. When I got home I received an email saying that the car was damaged and the won鈥檛 refund my deposit . These people are no less than legalised thieves and fraudsters

Worse experience ever, they try to sell extra insurance and trick you with credit car terms and conditions. Avoid goldcar over anything in the world. The employee is a heartless man who tried to trick us and also the man before us. He also left us outside in the twelve o鈥檆lock sun of summer with a 6 months baby. Cancelled the booking and we went to another company… get better value per money. Don鈥檛 even think for a second to hire a car here. Worse customer service ever!!! Avoid!!!

I got taken, after an hour of waiting, from Athens airport to the middle of nowhere. I had paid for Mega insurance, they said I still had to pay a deposit of 鈧?500, I complained but they insisted I did it, given I had a debit card they said it would take a month to pay the depist back, unless I paid another 鈧?29. As I was miles from anywhere I had no choice, they basically blackmailed me. Whatever you do don't use this company, the car cost me a lot more than if I'd gone with a proper company

Pick the car was fast, decided to pay for the full insurance… They offered me the kids car seat, so paid a bit less then I would online, with the free offer… Drop off took half an hour because the customer before me had some problems…
Overall all went well…
If you don't take insurance, they will take deposit, like any other company… Verify the car well, verify if the boot is ok, with all the accessories, etc…

Gold Car are running a rental scam via agentsand I was just a victim today. I booked via Discover Car Hire online. I thought I had booked and paid Euro 56 for everything including insurance. Discover booked me car through Gold.
However at the Gold Car Counter in Alicante Airport they wanted an additional Euro 383!! Gold denied any connection even though my full booking details were right on screen. Its a complete scam that both parties are fully aware of and indeed it doesn't stp there because Discover are running this through multiple car hire channels. GoldCar should be ashamed of themselves and I won't be going back even though I've used them for over 10 years.

Beware, beware, beware the hidden charges. Particularly look at the "refuel administration" charge of nearly 50!
I'm so careful reading the small print and even i got caught out. Luckily I had booked a cancellable option. If less than a star were possible I would

I hesitated a lot to use their services due to very bad reviews, but I risked anyway. The price was very cheap and I declined their offered insurance, so they took 1200 EUR deposit from my credit card. When receiving the car I have checked it very thoroughly and took a lot of pictures. The car was good, fairly new and worked perfectly. I was really afraid, that they will try to scam me upon return of the car, but everything went very smoothly and deposit was unblocked in a couple of business days. Probably if there were problems – they would not be very helpful, but there were not. So my advice is – you can use it, but be aware that you will be charged in case of any damage to the car. So either take their insurance or have yours on excess. Check the car carefully upon receive and drive carefully. But this time I can give them 5 stars. My rental this time went perfectly smooth.

Most car rental companies work the same, they don't tell you about fees until you get there. That is not my experience with Goldcar, which I've used multiple times. All the information is there when you are booking online. Somethings are just common knowledge which are parallel with all companies:
1.) You get a full tank you bring back a full tank, they can't be giving away fuel. It's a business. Before you drop off, check the closest place to fill up, then you know you left it full.
2.) If you signed something without reading the whole thing, you should kick yourself. If you read it, didn't like what it said and still signed it, you should kick yourself in the head.
3.) The vehicle has a certain value, the companies need to be covered, it doesn't matter if you're a good driver or not; $4!7 happens. So, you either pay for full coverage, or you trust yourself and your environment and give a deposit. It's not like your paying extra. And by the way, whatever insurance you get from a 3rd party WILL ALWAYS mean nothing to the company. It's a 3rd party, you go to them AFTER you settle any issues with the rental company.
4.) Allow a good time buffer for pickups and drop-offs. Don't rely on luck. Expect to be delayed somewhere.
5.) You need to inspect the car before you leave, don't be obtuse.
6.) Goldcar is the cheapest I find every time I look for a rental, despite the large deposit. My friends never believe the prices I get.
7.) Don't just take the car and leave, ask questions. Prepare questions before you even leave for the trip.
8.) Prices fluctuate according to tourist seasons. They WILL go very high when there are 1000s of vehicles in demand. With any company.
9.) If you're unsure about things while booking online, go to a physical travel agent to set up everything for you.
Once upon a time I hated car rental companies too. You just gotta learn the game.

The worst experience ever.

Because of flight delay + waiting in a row at GoldCar I miss pickup time for prepaid car with full insurance. They told me, that thew will probably took part of my money, but after checking they told me, that I will get full refund back (they gave me some document in spanih language which I do not understand….. where it was written, that I will get exactly 0 EUR as refund) and I made new contract with them (after waiting in a row for 2 hours – 5 peoples was in front of me).

GoldCar also asked from me, to prepaid full tank of fuel in case if I will not return car with full tank…. I asked them if i still need to return car with full tank and they said yes if I want to get fuel prepaid amount back…. after rental termination I get email, that they will not refund any money without and explanation why…

Just AVOID GOLD CAR!!!!!

NEVER AGAIN!

DO NOT USE!!

I rented from GoldCar in Chania, Crete. Unfortunately, my flight was delayed because of staff shortages in Greek Air Control. We had to sit on the plane next to the Gatwick runway while waiting for this to be cleared up and weren't allowed to use our phones (so couldn't contact GoldCar about the delay).

I had booked the car to pick up at 10 PM, my flight eventually landed at 10:50 PM. We left the terminal at 11:10, we were very quick off the plane, through security and collecting our bags. We followed the instructions provided by GoldCar for collection, however, we stood in the car park with no one from GoldCar insight!!

After looking around for a while, and ringing the office countless times we went back into the Arrivals hall where some very friendly staff helped us. They straight the way knew when we said 'GoldCar' that it was a problem. We found out the office had closed at 11 PM. We had provided the flight number on the booking, so they would have known we were delayed.

We were very lucky in finding a local bus that took us to Rethymno which was 1hr 30mins away for just 鈧?. Taxis were going to be 鈧?5 and too rent a car for 24hrs nearly 鈧?40. We arrived at 2 AM, spending nearly 1hr 30mins looking around Chania airport for GoldCar.

The next morning I woke up at 8 AM to ring the office when it opened. After explaining what had happened, and asking could I pick the car up this morning, the lady at the office let me know that there weren't any cars left, and because we hadn't picked up our car within 6hrs of the collection time my booking had been terminated. Also, she said I wasn't entitled to a refund, because I was the one who arrived late. She did not want to talk to me anymore and put the phone down.

I then waited till 9 AM for the head office in Spain to open. I rang them and did find a helpful lady, who was sorry for the situation. She rang the Chania office too see if she could sort it. When she came back tho, she let me know that Chania said there were no cars left, and again I wasn't entitled to a refund.

Unfortunately, I had to give up on the matter with GoldCar because nothing could be done about it. I was able after 3 days of ringing around to hire a car from a local company, Monza, which were fantastic, and would give 5 stars for there service!
