However, although, on May 17, 2010, the Google Safe Browsing report for ietab.net was favourable, ietab.net has the misfortune to sit on a server which might not be adequately protected from cross infections from other websites on the same hosting network?

Make sure you have an effective "zero day" application, aka "application firewall", or HIPS, behavioural, or heuristic, application, so nothing can install secretly between virus scans, or because your AV engine fails to flag up something, new, old, or one of the thousands of "wild list" samples which your AV engine cannot recognise.
If you are using a good anti-virus application, and that detects some problem with one of the files on your computer, upload the file to Virus Total and see if any, or how many, AV engines do not recognise the problem! [June 2010: 39 branded AV engines in use at this time.]
