I have to say after reading some of the reviews im shocked. My experience was amazing. I posted an ad at 7.00am and sold my item by 4.00pm, with multiple interest. Thank you Gumtree!

My 'crime' was changing my email address, thus creating 2 accounts. Then "Michelle" at Gumtree decided my ads for a fridge and a pump were "not suitable for the site." What a load of ROT. Best to advertise in your local paper. Avoid the email scams and the clowns that run Gumtree.

Absolutely awful experience cant contact anyone to get support says email bounces back does not exist. Scammers taking your money no protection i require the details of the person selling the item so i can retrieve the items i have paid for , not even a contact number , cant complain about the service as there is none 馃槨

Not sure on what these people are complaining about, I've been a member for over 7 years and never had problem, not once.
Especially if you want to sell, much easier to post ad and actually profit from your sales unlike eBay or Amazon.
Anyways, great platform, well at least for me.

I was a member since 2011. I was selling a Nikon D800. I paid good money for a well presented advert.

Within 3 minutes I received the first '' Hi is what you are selling available then contact me on ……………….enter email address.

This was repeated seven times over the next few hours always different and brand new names etc.

I contacted Gumtree and explained my frustration and how I have been with them for nine years etc and quite frankly they didn't give a hoot.

Oh they repaid my advert and such but offered myself nothing other than '' are you sure you wish to delete your account this is permanent'' etc

Damn right I do.

Would advise anyone with fully functioning brain stem to not bother for it is not worth the hassle nor risk.

Sadly Gumtree and similar kin are now a dying idea because of lack of trust not by them as a business model but the lack of effort in bothering they are hemorrhaging customers like myself.
I did a somewhat primitive nonetheless effective test of sorts and to sum up:

I guarantee 100 percent that if you are selling electronics, cameras or such devices you will get 10 scammers and zero real buyers within a few hours at max.

The risk of being truly scammed even having your wits about you is simply not worth the stress and hassle.

I followed all the guidelines and rules so don't DELETE MY AD!! WHAT A RUBBISH BUSINESS. AND YOUR CUSTOMER SUPPORT TEAM IS SO SLOW IT'S LIKE WAITING FOR SNOW IN BRISBANE (NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN). RETURN MY AD MONEY BACK YOU BUNCH OF SCAMMERS.

where can I report gumtree and shut them down in Australia?
they don't deserve to be here.

bad service, rude service, dishonest team and probably the main scammer of the site.

I had a litter of puppies ready to sell. All fully healthy and of age to be rehomed. All the legal requirements were fulfilled to sell the puppies. Every single detail required, done and done.

I posted my puppies up with detailed pictures and descriptions to help our buyers. The ad was up for around a week. Until some clown came along and demanded to get one for free. They didn't like being told that Great Danes were expensive and they couldn't have them for free. They buggered off, and an hour later my ad was removed for reported scam.

Then every time I put up the ad within the next day the ad was removed for scam. What do you expect? Same guy must of had a mental grudge and had to flag it. Must be boring sitting on gumtree every day looking through puppy search words and seeing my ad. Customer base must be full of clowns like this.

Took my business elsewhere to another website where I got to purchase an ad slot and immediately sold all puppies within a week. Hassle free and a pleasure. Thank hell I never bothered to purchase an ad on gumtree.

I also had spare tyre ad up a Holden Ute which was reasonably priced for a quick sell, apparently that was a scam too and it was flagged and removed. Unregulated garbage.

Gumtree is a waste of time and a joke. Take your business elsewhere if you want a hassle free experience.

sold a xbox remote to someone and they reported me for not getting it day three from it in transit auspost is not delivering everyday its covid restrictions. my account is deleted from his report and gumtree livechat tells me to message him and get him to write to them then gives email to send receipt then closes chat after saying they wont open my account. i cant get the email address the sent because they closed chat window so fast now they close the chat window everytime i open one there avoiding me. be aware people will report you for no reason and you will loose all your ads and their support will treat you like your not there even though their sole job is to help customers.

Trusted long time seller deleted for no reason!

I have been buying and selling with gumtree for well over 12 years. Never had a problem. They just deleted my account, and all my ads, and all my hundreds of positive seller feedback for no reason one day. Claimed I violated their policies – when in fact I hadn't. So how many strikes do you get – one? Did they bother to verify their "complaint" of course not. Just, oop, delete you gone. NEver again. Things sell eventually on gumtree… like 6 years later, and in less than 2 weeks on Facebook.

Nice job to offer to chat GUMTREE. Shame you don't answer any of the emails I already sent you. top job trying to LOOK good though.

For a number of years. I have used gumtree to buy and sell items and I have been appreciative that it has always been free. It is easy to use especially with the phone app.

Over the past few years I have become frustrated when I use the gumtree app because of the paid listings that pop up at the top of my search. I search for a Prado and I get bombarded with listings for unrelated small vehicles like a Holden Cruise or a Nisan Pulsar. This is pointless as I am searching for a large 4WD and not a little car. How is this helpful to the seller or the buyer?

I am also fed up of with all the sponsored eBay listings hidden in my search list. When pressed the app opens the eBay app that is also pointless for the product I am searching for. The reason being is that I get lumbered with eBay listings that are on the other side of the country. If I鈥檓 looking for a bathroom vanity why would I want to purchase it from another state with the cost of freight many times more than the vanity I am searching to purchase. They can鈥檛 even localise their sponsored listings with their eBay spam so it鈥檚 not helpful to anyone.

Gumtree used to be the dominant player when searching for secondhand products but due to annoying platform everyone is jumping over to other sites like the Facebook marketplace. RIP Gumtree

Twice I've had paid ads that have complied to the rules removed. Biggest scammers are not the ones replying to the ads.

I bought a tent. When I got there the guy was such 'a great mate'. Hell, he was so glad to see me, showed me his Harley, so great to catch up! Uh huh.

Got the tent home and unrolled it an it was so bad I cut the floor out and chucked the rest away. It was rat-tish! Holes the size of ten cent coins and mouldy throughout. So I rang the guy and said, look I don't think you've done the right thing here. And he said, he was more than happy to come around and smack me in the mouth. Mmmm, I passed on that.
So…I feretted around Cairns for another tent. Success. At last…well I thought so at the time. Got the tent back to the carvan park and the second night it rained. And the tent leaked like a seive. A lot of my bedding an books got wet. As you may have gathered, I was less than impressed. It was only after some direction from experienced travellers and campers that I finally remedied the leaks.

Couple of months back bought a vac. cleaner off GT. the woman put on an Acadamy Award performance of how good it was and why they were selling etc. Brilliant performance. Just so convincing. Got it home and found the bracket for the filter was missing. The filter was missing also. Had to stand on one leg and clap to finally get the two parts. So I was another $50 down, and some time and fretting, driving and phone calls later.

And Saturday…I was trying to by a push bike. Offered $80 over the price. Looked at the ad again today and the price had gone up dramatically. Contacted the seller. Three times. No response.

Don't anyone tell me that there are scam buyers out there. There are plenty of sellers going neck and neck with them for dishonesty.

Scammed!!!
Firstly, I would like to laugh at myself. Over my life I purchased online a lot from other websites, eBay, and Amazon, even International website. But I never ever had the problem who scams me in my life. I just started be gum tree members in July 2020. It is my first time to purchase on gum tree.com.au. But I was scammed by domestic people! I purchased Chanel earnings from Ann Zhang. When I saw her surname I should noticed myself it would be 100% the product would come from China. When she advertised her product was looking original and sent me original link page. I don't know why I believed her on that time. But when she sent me a pair of earrings. It wasn't the same photos as her post on gum tree. When she post channel earnings they were channel stamp on the back but when she sent to me it just look cheap which is we can by from Alibaba value less than $10. I sent her a message to tell her that the product were sent wasn't the same as described. She tried to say her product is good quality, so I asked her to exchange with the one she posted. She said 鈥滳onsidering the current Covid situation, this kind of items better not resell to others. How about you keep them and I refund $50 to you鈥? I agree with her offer. So, she asked me my bank details for transferring me money. I gave her all my details. Since then I haven't heard or got money back. I tried to contact her many times, but no response. Now, She got all my personal details. It's a big mistake and big learning experience on gum tree!

I recently hired a removalist, Mike from Penrith/castle hill. He was the worst removalist I have ever experienced. He claims to be a family business and has 15 years experience .he didn't even finish removing my stuff only 60%and wrapped everything that wasn't glued to the floor . Time wasting he even wrapped the big couch!
I decided to write an add on gumtree telling people not to use him he is dodgy and threatens to leave halfway through if you complain about him wrapping everything and going slow.
Gumtree took it down ! I asked gumtree why I wasn't allowed the add as he allowed his add and how was I supposed to warn people. They said I couldn't. So where is the justice? He is allowed to to rip people off but I am not allowed my add to warn people.
Gumtree you suck

I cannot find those leaves you talk about. So how can anybody Tring not to employ a dodgy removalist find the leaves and heed my warning.

Gumtree Customer Service is worse than Telstra & Origin Combined!!! I have been using Gumtree since I can remember and this is the worst and hopefully the last experience with Gumtree like this. I heavily rely upon these adds for my Business as I'm a sole trader and services for hire is big on Gumtree. I have raised issues through Gumtree customer contact on Thursday 30th July in regards to x2 business adds that just disappeared after editing them. It is now Monday 3rd August and still I have had no help from no one… Raised with Jason firstly, have tried multiple times to get resolved through other customer contacts and keep telling me Jason will take care of it when he 'gets' around to it, as this is a BUSINESS add its time sensitive – explained in my concerns. I have attempted to put my add up again and again but nothing is happening or showing. Why have I not had the decency from Gumtree to approach ONE of my issues raised and have it sorted.. What happened to Gumtree, used to be so good and now it is TERRIBLE. A lot of my friends are telling me to go to marketplace and other sites as they have the same problems with posting adds. I think there must be major conflict of interest within the team for what adds and issues are dealt with first. Clearly..

Won鈥檛 EVER use gumtree again, sold a camper trailer a few years back, we were bombarded with scam artists and fake enquires. This time selling my daughters car, pride for an ad same scam artists again then you have people offering $1000鈥檚 less for cash which again is a scam, next thing they try us to get ask you for your email address so they can discuss the car ( they can contact us on mobile ) just another way to get into your account, I replied to one & then found my spyware picked up 182 virus鈥檚 and spam. Gumtree used to be great but after this I will never use or recommend it to anyone, had better luck through marketplace & Carsales, such a shame, administrators need to address this.

So many people claiming they are interested in what you're selling. Then hack your account giving your advertisement a horrid title. Same, yet different people asking EXACTLY THE SAME QUESTIONS, lie to you when they go to pick an item up. Then try to blame the seller for not showing up when they were never there to start with.

I am an older Aussie who cares for an unwanted and mistreated little female cat who I found in my garage with a litter of kittens-RSPCA in my area told me to take her and her kittens to the pound-I kept her and posted an ad to give the kittens away-great response and I was careful with the prospective owners-win win situation.
Posted an ad last week-two kittens went to a lovely people-tried to edit the ad to reflect this-wouldn't let me re post the ad without paying.
I'm an older Aussie on a limited income-only work 3 days a week-cannot afford to pay for ads-considering the fact Gumtree is supposed to be "free".
Asked the question to customer care.."Why"-supposed to respond in 6 hours…
Still no response-cannot speak to a real person and cannot delete and re post another ad without cost.
Pricing procedures in the fine print are ambiguous and rather subjective so I have no idea why they are now trying to charge for this "free"service.
Shame really-deleted the app and will not use Gumtree again.
Lot of ordinary everyday Aussies who need this sort of service-just not one with questionable pricing policies and procedures and no adequate customer service to deal with customer concerns.
Shame on you Gumtree.

Banned my account for trying to sell a Lego set. They said my ad was not suitable for the site, but did not explain why. I have contacted customer support multiple times & they just send me a generic response each time, and do not actually help me in any way. Tried opening another account and this one was banned too, with no explanation why. If you want to waste much of your time & be treated like a criminal for no reason, go ahead and use Gumtree.
