However we chose Green Motion as they had decent reviews compared to some of the Icelandic rental places and their prices were very good.
The whole experience went off without a hitch. We waited 15 minutes for the shuttle to come back to the airport as the first one was full but then had the next one to ourselves and chatted to a very friendly driver.
I鈥檇 pre checked in before hand online so it took less than 15 minutes to pick up our vehicle when we arrived. The vehicle was exactly what we chose and served our needs perfectly. Everything worked, everything was clean.
We just took some pictures of bumps and dents just to cover ourselves even though they were already noted on the paperwork we signed. After that we were on our way and our fantastic little Fiat Panda 4×4 loyally took us on many adventures without any problems at all.
The drop off took even less time than collection. The same friendly chap who had shuttled us to the depot a few days prior received us at the drop off. He did a quick check of the vehicle, emailed us the final invoice and sent us on our merry way.
Thank you Green Motion! Both myself and my partner were very grateful for how smooth and easy the whole process was. Our holiday wouldn鈥檛 have been possible without a car and we鈥檙e so pleased we had such a good one!

We had very bad experiences with this Green Motioncar. We rented a Van. The first one we got had a broken key so nobody in the back could get out. The 2nd Van was in such an overal bad condition (wet inside, broken light, broken ventilation, etc) that we refused that one. With the 3rd one they send us away with a leaking engine. We were standing along the motorway with an overheated engine while there was a storm going on so we could not get out (which was difficult anyway since this one also had a door which was difficult to open!). We were lucky that one of us is a car mechanic and we had water with us. So we could get to the hotel with regular stops buying more water and filling up the engine with water. If we had to wait until Green Motion took action on this we were still standing there!. We had to call them more then 20 times to get a replacement car. This was promised to be there at 10am the next day, it arrived (after again several calls) at 1pm. It spoiled completely the trip we had planned for that day since it was too late then to leave.
We heard 100 times "sorry" but real actions to solve the problems were not taken by anybody of Green Motion. No communication between the employees, I had to explain the situation every time I called them again and tell them 10 times which hotel we were in.
We rent cars all over the world and we had never such a bad experience. Never Green Motion again!!
They gave us 150鈧?refund but that did not compensate the misery we had during our Iceland trip.

The return was even worst. We took a number and nobody else was there. It still took 30 (!) minutes till someone took care.
They wanted to charge me for a damage we didn't cause. After we went throug a lot of old images of the car it was clear that is was not our damage. On top of 30 minutes of waiting it took another 45 minutes till everything was clear.
I noticed an extra charge on my credit card after the vacation for a second driver. I already payed for that in the beginning so you charged me twice.
We got an offer to upgrade to a "better" car for 20$ a day on top. The second car we got was the exact same we got offered as "upgrade". That really had a negative impact on the trust of your company.
Both cars were in incredible bad condition. Both engine lights were alamring. We couldn't close the left front door and the trunk couldn't been locked.
Both cars were dirty, the steering was shabby and the wish water was empty. Things you don't want to have on icelandic winter roads.
On top of that we got offered an extra insurance. That is fine in generell but not for cars which ran more than 160.000 kilometeres. Especially not with that attitude of the employees. The almost threatened us that there will be an extra charge of 8-10k $ at sand storm damages. The car wasn't even close to that value of that anymore. Everything else was already insured. Didn't get the point of that.
I rented so far 4 times at GreenMotion and 7 cars in total. All my experience is pretty much the same like this one. Not renting anything again.

The process was very quick, the location is great (very close to the airport), the fact that they pick you up from the terminal building it鈥檚 very convenient.

On arrival they really force you to take out their insurance. I refused as I was already insured. THERE WAS A SMALL DENT IN THE DOOR! Yet the bill included removing the rear bumping and even spraying the roof. The shuttle driver was nice and said that he refused to work in the office as he is an honest person.

The check in process took a little longer than we expected, but all agents worked efficiently.

The checkin area is really nice with the WiFi and coffee machine.
I have been using green Motion also in UK and had similar, good experiences.
I recommend Green Motion in Iceland and looking forward to rent their cars in my future trips.

My experience was identical to mike monke. They gave us an old car with damage and acknowledged all panels were damaged. they charge me $3,000 for a debt that was already there. I refused to agree to the existing prior damage and they threatened to call the cops and refused to take me to the airport. I was forced to leave due to my flight and had to run 3 miles. They have now since sent a colllection notice for $5000 dollars. When I try ask for a copy of prior records they refuse to provide them and will not cooperate like a reasonable business.
I鈥檓 looking to take legal action against them.

They picked me up at the airport. I do must say that the advertisement said that they have an office at the airport, so that confused me a bit for the moment. But the driver was waiting at the pick-up place with a sign saying "GreenMotion" so easily to find. I had no problem with the pick-up since it was only a -/+ 5 minute drive, but I do think it's a good idea to let people know that somebody is waiting for them to pick them up 🙂
At the office it all went good. The woman gave me a clear explination about how to drive in Iceland and what to pay attention on. I do must say that the deposit was quite high, I didn't even had that money on my creditcard… Had allready bought a full-covert insurance by rentalcar.nl (the site I booked at) but had to buy another insurance at GreenMotion so the deposit was lower. Not really their fault I think but it does was a bummer for me since I "lost" a lot of money there…
The car they gave me had some damages on the car (like scratches or stuff like that). They showed me a papier with all the damages the car has on, so I know they knew that and that the couldn't charge me for that. Since I picked up the car in the dark they gave me a copy of that papier so I could check it by myself in the morning. And if I saw any more damages they told me to take a pic with my phone, so they could see the date I made that pic and they knew it wasn't my fault 🙂 I think that's a pretty good thing to do!
On the road I had no problems with the car at all! We even did a few of the bumpy roads, she brought me to Ha茂foss and Dyrh贸l忙y without any problems!
Bringing it back was also really easy. Had a nice guy at the office, he checked the car (no damages made by me yeah!) we signed the paper and we had a nice chat since I had to wait a few minutes for the driver to arrive (which was perfectly fine because I got there a bit earlier than I told them).
So I had a great experience with this company! I travelled all by myself without any conpany and offcourse heared some stories of rental cars with problems along the way. But Greenmotion gave me a perfect car who showed me the pretty South of this amasing island!

Sidenote: I had a really nice driver! Funny guy, had the same driver picking me up as bringing me back and had a, as he says, "VIP trip" since I was the only one he was driving, both of the times! Don't know his name, buy thank him again for the nice chat's in the car from the girl who drove the cool little yellow car! 🙂

There's plenty of nice car rental with friendly staff.
Services are not good with some extra charge, staff is not nice (talking to them is like a box fight), car is downgraded compare to what I booked…
Seriously, I rent a lot of car in my life, that was the worst experience ever…

The staff at the counter offered me full insurance, but did not insist when I told them I already bought one with EasyRentCars. The deposit they charge for economy car is a lot though…about 2.100 EUR, so prior to arrival, I had to arrange with my bank to increase the limit on my credit card. I rent cars a lot all over the world and the deposit almost never exceeds 700-800 EUR for economy car.
