Greek Seas Sailing

I have wanted to visit Greece for many years now, and so was really excited when my husband and I booked a sailing trip for September with a group of friends. I have to say, even though my expectations for the trip were very high, Greek Seas managed to exceed them all.

Our wonderful skipper Yiannis personalized our travel route through the Saronic Islands based on our preferences and also served as our expert guide. His recommendations on where to eat and what to do were spot on – thanks to him we enjoyed many wonderful meals at hidden gem restaurants that we never would have found on our own. The food and wine in Greece was definitely a high point. We enjoyed cocktails while watching beautiful sunsets, delicious tatziki and feta, fresh seafood, gyros, and plenty of wine. Our group was all pleasantly surprised by the fava beans, who knew that would be one of our favorite dishes?!?!

Every morning we would set sail from whichever island we happened to be docked at, and drop anchor for a swim in a cove. It was heaven. Each spot was unique and mind blowingly beautiful, with crystal clear waters and blue skies. I had always though Greece looked beautiful in photos, but they really don't do it justice. After we felt sufficiently relaxed, from there we would sail to our next island or town. Each destination had its own flavor to offer. I found the island of Spetses to be the most charming, with its colorful architecture, vibrant flowers, and numerous fruit trees. My husband enjoyed the quiet, off-the-beaten-path feel of Tyros.

All in all, this was a vacation that I would absolutely recommend. I think a chartered sailing trip is truly the most intimate way to see the Greek islands and experience the culture, so if seeing Greece has been on your bucket list, I say go for it!

We sailed at the end of the season with Yiannis. Booking could not have been easier and the pre-trip emails leading up to the trip were very informative and answered all of our travel/transportation questions. We were delayed getting the marina on Saturday, but still had plenty of time to go to the grocery store and start sailing before dark. We parked in a cove the first night which was a great way to ease into the trip. Every island we visited was unique and beautiful in its own way. The food was delicious, everyone was friendly and Yiannis was a great resource to help us find unique places off the beaten path. Stopping to swim in coves during the day was breathtaking. Photos do not begin to capture the beauty of the landscape and the shocking blue and clearness of the water. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.
