Appalling service during Covid-19.
I booked a hire car, and due to my airline cancelling the flight (CV-19) I am no longer able to complete my trip. So due to an activity outside of my control completely I am unable to fulfill my holiday. I advised of my need to cancel as soon as I became aware of the flight cancellation. On contacting goldcar, I was advised that there would be no refund as my policy was a special offer with no cancellation built in. I said surely this is not classed as a normal cancellation due to the circumstances involved, there is still over 8 weeks until my booking completes, so plenty of notice to re-rent the car. I then asked if they would reduce to issue a refund, could they move my money onto a future booking, so that I am not completely out of pocket through no fault of my own, again they refuse even this. Absolutely disgusting and one company to avoid!

Update: since posting review doyouitaly still refusing refund . I have been in contact with Goldcar at the same time. They blame each others T&C keep saying I booked non refundable booking so I will not get refund no matter covid19 disrupted my travel or not. DYI offered 21 GBP they profit money but I refused..its principal of situation, and the way they have been dealing by lieing to me both sides blaming each others T&C.

Then, contacted by the broker they said they were reimbursing me because it was a mistake. Sent me a form to fill and… Nothing received!
So, again contacted by the broker, they said they didn't receive my data (false). I filled again the form and… Nothing received!
So, I contacted again the broker that got in touch again with them that said again they didn't receive my data. So I sent them my bank data via email, via the online form and via any possible email and… Nothing received!!!

We used these con artists in Murcia from the Corvera airport.
LUCKILY I took photos of the car as it was absolutely covered in mud and dust, I even paid for it to be cleaned in case they charged me back at the airport.
So when we returned the car the operative went round the car with what looked like a magnifying glass, and of course she found a couple of hairline scratches which of course I could not have seen due to the filthy paintwork !
When I showed her the photos of the car at pickup she wasn't in the least bit interested, so I stormed into their office and demanded an assurance that I would not be charged for the scratches.
I was assured that no charges would be forthcoming, and left for the departures hall.
THEN I got an email from them that they were going to charge me 200 Euros for the damage !!
Luckily we had not gone through security, so I went back to the office and got a written confirmation that they would not charge my card, and up to now nothing has been charged.
How they are allowed by law to do this to people beats me, they should be shut down !!

The behaviour of the staff member at Goldcar car hire in Edinburgh Airport was sickening. They took complete advantage of it being late at night and that our party were stood outside, in the cold, with a 3 week old baby – palmed off all responsibility and gave us no option but to pay extra costs and dispute at a later date.

They scam you
When we came and needed our loan car.
Was told at the counter that we could not have the car delivered unless we took out insurance for about 320 euros above.
I told you we had already booked insurance when I rented it from home.
She didn't care.
She was not friendly or accommodating.
Either we had to pay for the extra insurance or we could take a taxi from the airport.
Norweigen says we should contact you.
So we reckon we get the insurance money back.
They are the worst fuc….and shi.place, to rent car.

When we picked up the car at ALICANTE airport the receptionist tried her very hardest to sell us their own insurance saying that the DoYouSpain and AXA insurance did not cover us. She was very forceful and rude.
She was not only trying to sell us unnecessary insurance, but there was also 拢50.00 taken out of our credit card for petrol, even though we said we would drop the car off with a full tank.
We left a full petrol tank, but never got that money reimbursed.
Word of advice. On pick up and drop off ensure you take photos of the car inside and out.
When we got back home, they send us photos of a damaged window mirror and took more money out of our credit card. Absolutly not true and a total lie.
When contacting DoYouSpain to make a claim they told us we should have taken photos of the car. No one mentioned to us at pick up we should take photos. Never heard of having to do that before. We can鈥檛 see why we should have too, when there was no damage.
Even though we asked at the drop off, none of the staff was prepared to come out and look at the car.
Incidentally, our daughter is experiencing the same problem. Nearly 拢200.00 taken out of her credit card for no reason.
She had to put another driver on the policy, as by the time we went on holiday she was pregnant and not feeling too good. She was told because she added another driver, she in affectedly cancelled the policy and had to take a new one out.
Not returning the petrol money and accusing us of damaging the car, when we didn鈥檛鈥︹€?br />
we call that fraud and theft.
We will never be giving business to either DoYouSpain or Gold Car again.

Weekend of 26/27 October. Hired a car on-line through Holiday Autos who used Gold Car hire for collection at EDINBURGH airport. (Inter-rent also on receipt).
Despite their promise that the car reserved would be provided without fail – it wasn't and the agent denied all knowledge of the promise.
Hand-over of vehicle was poor – amounted to "here's the key the car is out there in the dark somewhere" – difficult to find where all controls were in the dark as the car was a make we were unfamiliar with.
Noted defects was damage to the front kerbside wheel – the person on reception stressed repeatedly that they knew the wheel trim and passenger side wing mirror was damaged and we did not need to worry about that.. The rep emphasised that we should inform them by 10:00 the next day only any other significant damage to the bodywork larger than about 2" square not indicated on the handover paperwork. On return of the car we were accused of a slit in the tyre immediately adjacent to the wheel damage and told that we would be charged for a new tyre (we have a photograph to show the damage to the wheel trim and adjacent tyre damage). We did not do the damage and objected strongly. I am of no doubt that the damage to the tyre wall was caused when the wheel was damaged by others and that the car was provided to us with an illegally damaged tyre. Further I am of no doubt that it was used as a excuse to take money illegally. How many more people will be charged for the same damage?
No one should, in my opinion, use this company. nor should Holiday Autos list them on their website.

However the flight got delayed for half an hour.
We got to the Edinburgh Airport with two wheel chair friends only to find the office had shut at 9.00pm.
On the booking it mentioned the office is within the Airport but on arrival we found out it was a bus ride to the office.
We struggled alot as we were very new to the place and had to get a bus to our hotel where we arrived at 1.00 am with two of our friends who cannot walk properly.
They had no out of hour phone lines.
The next day I had to re book and drive to the airport to pick the vehicle and there I saw three customers in front of me who were in some sort of disagreement with the staff and the staff were not friendly at all and to and extent rude.
I will never use GoldCar ever again.

Booked a car to pick up at Milan airport. Booked through agent and confirmation clearly states all taxes are paid for.
They wouldn鈥檛 give us the car unless we paid for a diesel tax (didn鈥檛 request or want a diesel car)
Called the booking agent and they confirmed that no additional taxes should be paid. They asked me to pass the phone to the person at the check in desk. The person at the desk refused to take the phone saying I wasn鈥檛 a customer as the car was booked in my partners name. I passed the phone to my partner to pass to them and they said 鈥業 don鈥檛 take the phone of no one!鈥?
Astounded and shocked at how rude they were!
