Georgia Street

Georgia Street was remodeled when Indianapolis hosted the Super Bowl in 2012. The street is used to host parties and other events during football season at really any time when the city is wants to attract people downtown. The street runs between the convention center and Banker's Life Fieldhouse – six or seven blocks. The here are a handful of restaurants and bars along the route including Harry and Izzy's. There are lots of restaurants and hotels on the side streets along the street as well. To the south one block, the railroad meets Union Station.

The median of the street is decorated with metal arch structures and lights. During events, various businesses and food trucks will offer beverages and street foods.

The street is a lovely walk after a late night basketball game. I like to go down early on a Sunday morning when no one is around and enjoy the magnificent architecture along the route.

Ever since Indy built the gorgeous Georgia Street, the liveliness of downtown has doubled. There's an event on this iconic, community-centered street almost every day of the year. They'll either shut down the street to cars, or just have the middle/median part open for a party while cars are on either side.

They'll be Food Truck Fridays during the summer, workout Wednesdays (fun, outdoor workout classes during lunchtime), post-work happy hours, etc. When Indy hosted the Super Bowl, we even had concerts on this street and a zipline that went down the entire street. There's also a New Year's car drop with DJs/drinks/food and so much more.

This street leads to Indy's convention center, so it's awesome to have this great community space in front of so many visitors. So thankful to have a city that cares so much about important public spaces!

I most recently hung out on Georgia Street to volunteer for PPINK during Labor Fest. The weather was unseasonably pleasant for the first weekend of September, and just around the corner, Lucas Oil was gearing up for opening day of football hosting Purdue and Louisville. Georgia Street was absolutely packed with people and everyone was in a wonderful mood!
The pedestrian mall is three blocks long and is host to so many events throughout the year. We've been down there for New Year's Eve, Burger Fest, a 5K run, the Super Bowl, Gen Con, and Friday Food Truck Festival just to name a few. Indianapolis and its residents are super lucky to have the Georgia Street pedestrian mall.

Rang in the New Year on Georgia Street! The event began with a DJ playing EDM at 10:30pm, who pumped up the crowd. The evening was filled with energy and excitement from all of the people milling about. At midnight, they dropped an Indy car that was suspended in the air followed by fireworks.

The New Year's Eve event was extremely well run and a lot of fun! They had several outdoor bars located throughout Georgia Street. Bankers Life Fieldhouse was open, so you could warm up and use the bathrooms. They also had some porta potties along the street.

If you come downtown early, I recommend staying inside at one of the local bars along Georgia Street until at least 10:30 PM since the outdoor festivities don't begin until then. The New Year's Eve celebration on Georgia Street is a free, all ages event and a great way to bring in the new year!

I have multiple events in Georgia street and every time I have had a good time. What more could you ask for with food vendors, all sorts of events, sometimes music, sometimes live music, sometimes alcohol.

You never know what you are going to find in Georgia street but it's always a good time with good staff.

I went to Georgia Street to eat lunch on a Friday afternoon while attending a conference. It was so nice to get out and walk around. The trucks were great and similar to the ones at the First Friday food truck fest. Again, lines tend to get long quick. I suggest more places to sit and maybe closing off the street for this. One side of the street is still open to traffic which seems a little hazardous while people are walking around. I'd suggest closing it for that one time during the week and setting some more tables out. There are very few so if you're attending a large conference, you gotta get there quick. I love that you are sitting in the middle of downtown, in the middle of the street eating food truck cuisine. So much fun!

Georgia Street was added to the city for the Super Bowl when it came to Indy and it's been a great feature ever since.

You might accidentally stumble upon it when no events are going on and think it's just a beautiful street, and that it is! But it's much more than that! It's a "local flavor" that offers so many fun events throughout the year! Whether that be for the St. Patrick's Day festivities, to Food Truck Fridays, to sporting events… Georgia Street is a true treat to downtown Indy!

I remember when I worked at Indianapolis Downtown Inc. and the idea of transforming Georgia Street into a vibrant pedestrian and event thoroughfare came to life. Now, you'll often find this downtown three-block artery playing host to major conventions and large sporting events. One week it's America's farm kids for the FFA Convention, the next its Michigan State fans and Iowa Hawkeyes tailgating before the big game. You'll find lush landscaping, seating in between the streets and bro-y bars like Howl at the Moon, Kilroys and Hooters. The classier options? Omni Severin Hotel and Harry & Izzy's.

In my opinion, the transformation of Georgia St. into the events hub that it is now was one of the best things to come out of Indy hosting the Super Bowl.

On days when there isn't something in particular taking place on Georgia St., it is a 2 way street separated by a wide brick pedestrian walkway in the center that connects the convention center with Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The street is a nice place to walk, and features benches and tables, as well as a little bit of history as well. There is no lack of places to get some good food and cold beer at one of restaurants that line the road, although there isn't really a lot of business that integrates onto the street at all since the conversion of this street took place long after most of these businesses were well established.

The thing that is the most enjoyable aspect of the street is when they host events. The list of events that take place here has a little bit of everything on it, including giant parties, concerts, holiday celebrations, sports tailgates, community exercise programs, happy hours, beer fests, and a long list of other great things to do. I'm not sure if there is a particular group in charge of organizing these individual events, but they usually seem well organized and are always packed with a fun crowd. During large conventions, this street normally hosts quite a few food trucks, as well as some makeshift outdoor bars where you can get some good local beer and enjoy what is hopefully a nice day.

I hope Indy stays committed to using this unique space as a place to host some of it's most fun events. It does a great job of showing visitors how awesome the city is, and the location is as convenient as any in town.

Probably the most active street in downtown Indianapolis. I love the variety of organized activities and events on Georgia Street. Also, there is free workout session on every Wednesday!

I stumbled on this event last week while walking around the convention center area checking out the GenCon costumes and thought, "This is pretty cool. How is it that I work downtown and am on Yelp, but have never heard of it?" A little bar area was set up, featuring various cocktails, beer, and wine, and even food. I got the Whiskey Daisy, for $6, which was not bad for a cocktail, even though it was somewhat small (small cup, lots of ice). DJ Lockstar was there, playing some really good techno music at just the right volume (not so loud you can't hear yourself think, but loud enough to be heard). There wasn't much seating, but luckily there weren't many people there, either, so we snagged seats on some wicker+cushion chairs. Regardless, there is plenty of room to mill about. The other people there seemed to be mostly young professionals in their mid twenties to early thirties, having come straight from their offices downtown. This is more of a low key "bring a friend or two and hangout" type atmosphere than a "drink a lot, party hard, and meet new people" atmosphere, which was nice.

I think this event needs to be promoted better (or at all), because I think a lot of people would be interested in going if they knew it existed. A lot of people, even those who work and/or live downtown, don't really make it over to Georgia St. much, and otherwise wouldn't know about it.

While Indianapolis was preparing for the Super Bowl, downtown got some upgrades. One of those was Georgia Street. The two lane road was modified to include a walking path and enough room for events to take place. Also included were heaters and benches to try and make it more tolerable in the event the Super Bowl was during snowy weather.

The Super Bowl may have come and gone, but Georgia Street still exists. Most days you find traffic flowing just as you would any other street, but Friday evenings during the summer and during times of major conventions in town, you'll see Georgia Street converted into a pedestrians best friend. Friday events can include outdoor festivals and music put on by The Omni or a stage by Kilroys. During the NCAA Final Four you'll see stages set up closer to Bankers Life with people everywhere.

I'm glad we have something like this downtown. It's a great place for events to take place right in the heart of the city. Even better, there are plenty of places to lock up your bike!

so much promise for this space. Sometimes the events are stellar….Superbowl and sometimes not so high reaching. But, the whole street is nice to look at and usable for events. I applaud the city for being so ambitions with this space. Even to the point of adding radiant heaters.

So far the organizers are doing great. The businesses along the street struggle to find a way to integrate with the events but I think they will eventually figure it out.

I hope the events keep coming and I'll keep going. Good job Indianapolis.

Georgia Street has many incarnations. It can be everything, for example when our city hosted Super Bowl 46 and threw a huge party for thousands upon thousands of our closest friends, or it becomes nothing but a street, like on a random Tuesday morning when it is used as a thoroughfare for cars entering and exiting Circle Center Mall, seems to be nothing around it but crickets and tumbleweeds.

You would never guess the huge party that had occured just a couple years ago. Don't let her fool you. While she may not have much on Bourbon or Beale Streets, she definitely knows how to have a little fun and be a most gracious host.

I have walked down Georgia St. and stood shoulder to shoulder with thousands of revelers from all over the world listening to LMFAO, as part of the largest block party ever. And although I did not go to Gen Con, you bet I went over to Georgia St. to check out all the fantastic costumes during Gen Con's Georgia St. block party, and to sip Sun King's specially released beer for Gen Con, Flagon Slayer, and shared a table with some super nice folks from Toronto, discussing all things Indy.
Colts tailgating is always fun here, with bands and a beer garden, although last year beers were limited to Miller Lite. I have also been there a couple of times where the crowd wasn't so great, due to weather, timing, or lack of interest. Georgia St. has such great potential for even better things, and who knows, maybe another Super Bowl celebration, more epic than the last come 2018.
