Horrible people.
Camper van had no brake fluid, dangerous tyres and a tired cabin with broken cabinets, doors etc. They put me and my family at risk.
Refused to refund our money, we had to go through our credit card company to get some money back. Avoid these fools.

These people are unbelievable. Not only did they jeopardise the lives of me and my family by giving us an unroadworthy vehicle, they also refused to refund us whilst laughing in our face (we got some of the money back from the credit card company in the end luckily).
We want prospective customers to be made aware of camper Iceland's shoddy work practices, blatant disregard for the safety of their customers and their disgusting attitude towards customers when they ask for some help when the campervan doesn't work or has broken down. You are a horrible company run by horrible people who ruined our holiday to Iceland. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID, DON'T LET THESE FOOLS RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY TO ICELAND TOO.

This terrible company operates under the guise of several other websites, these are as follows:

George Bernard Shaw.

Shame on you horrible fascist fools, this is a man whom admired Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini, he supported genocide. Shaw called Hitler "a very remarkable, a very able man", for you to quote this man is very fitting for you and your company, it proves how horrible you fascists are!

I do not recommend!

We chose CamperIceland for the "foldable baby bed" option, which they were the only ones to offer. We have mailed them to ensure that the type of campervan we were considering was large enough to unfold the bed. On the advice of our contact 'Jonhson Group', we chose a larger camper than we had planned (more expensive too). During the pick-up, while we ask for the baby bed that we had booked, we were told that it was not possible to unfold it in the camper. The foldable baby bed option is the reason why we chose camper iceland. For us there is misleading advertising, and lack of security (a 14-month baby, on a upper-bed, with an incomplete net … seriously?). Of course, we have mentioned our dissatisfaction, to the receptionist first, then to the swiss-groupe: no apologizes, no compensation. The Swiss group even no answer before our 2nd mail, as we came back home (the first mail was on the very first day of our trip).

Another point, we arrived at 17:10pm, and had to pay 150 鈧?fee for late arrival. As we had selected our arrival time (to the nearest quarter hour), we would have preferred to get this information before booking, the benchmark with other renters would have been more fair.

Attention please: you are alone to check the vehicle during the pick-up. You have to you note every single shocks, including the slight chips of paint due to chippings. Do not forget one: when you return the vehicle, it is scrutinized meticulously, with a very different attention from the laxity of the beginnings. And if you have not seen some shocks, they will be directly charged!

To conclude, if you have the opportunity to go to Iceland, choose another renter!

If we had seen these reviews before, we would definitely not have rented them!

I would stay away after my last experience. Funny though, it matches many that I read here.

If you are looking to rent from these guys, just make sure you take detailed pictures of the underside of the vehicle as well, before you drive away, as when their cheap previous repair jobs fall apart when you are using their vehicles, they will claim ignorance and re-charge you the full-replacement price (which costs about the same as 2 weeks rental) when you return it, and undoubtedly make a quick and dirty repair job again…for the next unsuspecting guy. Also, I can't speak for all their campers, but the one we received had a totally non-functioning table (it was broken in two places : the table flopped around the central pole (as though it was on a ball joint), and one of the tripod feet kept popping out …much fun trying to live with it for 2 weeks). They also did not provide adequate bedding -> you should definitely still take your own sleeping bags with if you don't want to get cold at night : they give thin summer duvets (with no bottom sheets)…its an average of 5 degrees C at night.

I rented a 4×4 vehicle from them for two weeks. It was not brand new (had about 30000 km on the odometer, so had seen its fair share of use), but looked ok. On our second day (by the time we got to Skaftafell, so still on the tarred ring road, before heading into the bumpy highlands) the rear bumper started looking skew/asymmetric, and a small piece of the bumper had popped half-off of its own accord. I was surprised as we had no incidents (throughout the whole trip), everything was perfect, and we had been on smooth tar all the time up to that point. I tried to pop it back on, but a crucial piece was broken (and the shape wrong! The screws/clips were in the wrong position), so it couldn't clip into two of the 3 places holding it on…I regret not taking pictures of this. I found it very odd that a non-crucial piece of the bumper pops off, AND the whole bumper looks skew, after two days, on its own accord, without any incident, only driving on tar roads … so I investigate further. Looking under the car I see that there is non-factory-original wires holding the bumper in place/shape, onto the bar which keeps the camper box on the back, and one of those wires was missing. This explains the warping. Needless to say when the time came to return the car, and the discussion comes to this, I am told by the 'mechanic', in a rather unsavory fashion, 'What wire? You did X and Y to the bumper, you put this wire' …

Unfortunately I cannot attach pictures of the wires (and lack of wires) from their last quick and dirty repair job. I did not put them there. Neither did Isuzu (the maker of the car). I also did not do X and Y or hit their car or rear bumper or front bumper onto a road or a rock or another car or anything of the sort…neither this trip or my previous trips to Iceland. The only thing that touched their car under my care, was water, from river crossings, and the odd stone bounced under the chassis, from the front tyres. They charged me (and probably the previous guy who did the actual damage to their car) for an entirely new bumper, and I am fairly certain they will just spend about $2 of wire, to put it back into place.

Needless to say, I will not use them again, nor will I recommend them. And I don't care that my insurance will cover this … the principle is not right…it's fraudulent.

EDIT : As a response to the superb reply by the great staff (and if this is not enough to put you, the reader, off):

NO, my insurance will not cover the cost of damage I did to your vehicle -> it will cover the cost of damage someone else did to your vehicle (THIS I CARE ABOUT, ITS NOT RIGHT), and that was cheaply repaired using wire, and still continue to have the audacity to blame me for, including your great homemade wire job. NO, I DID NOT DAMAGE THE REAR BUMPER, AND REPAIR HALF IT WITH A WIRE HACK-JOB. That was all you, before I received your vehicle. Half the previous wire-hack-job came loose 2 days in, on tar road. None of your photos of your vehicle are taken from below the car…

The front number plate sits HIGHER than the front bumper -> there is zero damage to the front bumper underneath the number plate, or the bottom -> the number plate coming off (due to river crossings) is the most common thing to happen to cars in Iceland…in case you were unaware. I never mentioned this, because this was rightfully my fault…no problem taking rightfull ownership of my mistakes. Also, not a sign of anything fishy on my side.

And most importantly NO, the purpose of my review is not to harm a reputation (which, quite frankly, was not doing so well before I wrote this review), its merely to share an experience, that people deserve to know. A shame I can not post pictures of the wire job here.

Escalate this to the CEO if you like. It would be great to enlighten him/her as to the kinds of things that are happening at his business. There is a saying : 'where there is smoke, there is fire', as can be seen by the reviews on this website.

PS: this company has several websites. I read similar experiences on TripAdvisor.

The pickup was ok, little slow, and the key had to be fixed. The guy who signed the form w us did not put the damages we pointed to him on the form.
The camper was in working condition, but could do with some refurbishment.
On the 3rd day we had a puncture. It was clear the tyre was old and not good anymore for the road. It was clear the company does not check this. this is a security hazard!
The tools to change the tyre were inadequate, and the spare not compatible! thank god for some good farmers on the way that helped us.
The company insurance does not cover tyres – make sure you cover w another company like we luckily did and check the tyres!
Drop-off was nothing short than a nightmare: we arrived an hour before time to leave to airport, the shuttle was called late.
The representative on premises tried to bill us for damage that was there on pickup! we had to insist they call the guy who signed at pickup to confirm our version, which took valuable time.
When complaining about the lacking tools and spare tyre the rep had the nerve to argue with us, that the tyre was in perfect condition and that we do not know how to change a tyre! the fact we stood in the rain 3 hours to salve the puncture did not seem to interest him at all. He was obnoxious and rude. The whole experience was annoying and upsetting.
THIS IS NO WAY TO END A NICE TRIP!

The booking experience through the parent company Johnson Group was very good. The insurance system was a bit confusing and we took out independent excess insurance for Icelandic trips as well for reassurance. We were upgraded from a 5 birth to a 6 birth for free and we benefitted from the early bird booking discount which made it cheaper than the other companies. I chose Camper Iceland as I liked that they were just 10 mins from the airport, and they had a guest house you could stay in on the last night (Nordic Guest House 鈥?very good).
Our campervan rental experience could have been much better though. When we arrived after a long flight, we were not made to feel welcome. There was a problem with another customer who was being charged for damage and it made us feel very uneasy. We were worried we had a made a mistake booking with this company. We felt we had to take lots of pictures of the van to protect ourselves. The staff were not very friendly. The camping kit we purchased for E240 was very expensive for the quality of items we received. Although towels and bedding was very clean, the pillows were very lumpy and thin. We had 4 people in the van and there were only 4 coat hangers. There was no tin opener, only one large pan and one very small pan. The plastic cups were very old and smelly. We had to go to IKEA and spend another E50 to buy new pillows, cutlery, cups and crockery so that we could live more comfortably in the van for 2 weeks. This was very disappointing for the price we paid. We also hired a table and 4 chairs for E60 which were of very poor quality. The table was dirty and the chairs were unstable and ripped.
Having said this, the campervan itself was very nice indeed and worked perfectly. We had no problems at all during our 2000 kilometre journey around the ring road. Camping was easy using the Iceland Camping Card (very good value for money). You have to clean the van before you return it 鈥?which is a bit of a pain but you can do this for free in the petrol stations. We took our time and cleaned it thoroughly. There were no problems at all with the return of the vehicle and the staff were much friendlier (same person). The stay in the Nordic Guest House was nice.
Despite the negatives detailed above, the campervan was very good so I gave them 4 stars. You just need to read the small print very carefully, get yourself properly insured and take lots of pictures of any damage before you leave. We emailed all our pictures (60) of even the most minor chips to the company on the first night just to be sure! We had an amazing holiday in Iceland.

We just hired a 6 sleeper motorhome for 5 nights in southern Iceland and had a mixed experience with Camper Iceland.

Positives:
– They are one of only a few motorhome companies which still rent out large campers after 1 October each year.
– When we asked for a discount they included the 鈧?00 'camper kit' for free.
– Email and booking was responsive and friendly.
– The motorhome was modern and reasonable quality – easy to drive and maintain.

Negatives:
– The arrivals registration process took nearly two hours – the introduction video is terrible and could be a 5min video not a 20min video.
– Our inspection of the car took place in a heavy sleet storm where it was impossible to see chips on the windscreen because of all the rain. When we drove out we discovered several chips – when we returned the vehicle they refused to accept these were already there and tried to charge us 60.000ISK about 鈧?50 towards the insurance. We refused and eventually discovered the paperwork from the pervious drivers had the chips marked on it.
– All the additions such as cleaning, camper kit etc (which is essential) are all + 鈧?00 each. Yes Iceland is expensive but this is a total rip-off. The van has to be cleaned anyway!
– There needs to be far more information on campsites open after October that has water, waste disposal etc.
– When we returned the motorhome we filled up with petrol about 5km from the office. They then tried to charge us 10.000ISK for a full tank because the tank showed it was only 98% full. In Iceland you also have to buy prepaid cards for fuel so it's almost impossible to fill a tank exactly.

Overall I'd say avoid if you can, but if you have to use them because of the time of year you need to document every inch of the vehicle with a fine tooth comb because they are looking for ways to make more money from you.

Don鈥檛 rent a car at Camper Iceland!
– The staff in this car rental is really unfriendly. We were customers there, had a lot of money left there and the staff did not manage even to say "good morning" or make the transaction in a friendly tone.
– On our second day we had to drive straight back to Camper Iceland, which cost us half a day: one of the windows was leaking and as it had been raining during the night, one of the beds was wet the next morning. Furthermore, the table was broken, which we had to convert to a bed every night.
– The camper itself was okay, apart from the fact that none of the cupboards closed well and after even a short drive they stay open 鈥?the two at the kitchen were not usable.
– The mattresses of the beds were completely worn out, the pillows old and a catastrophe, the seat cushions worn out.
– We were four people in the camper, the kitchen equipment was inadequate for this.
– The level indicator of the tanks for freshwater and sewage did not work.
– While driving around the island, a branch once cut along the side of the camper, creating a superficial scratch on both the window and (very light) the side. Of course, it has to be discussed at the delivery, but it is impossible to say how the employee acted – that was no longer unfriendly, that was outrageously.
He called very quickly the sum of 1000 euros, which we should have to pay 鈥?we had the feeling, that this sum was fictitious. We had to get to the airport quickly and so we paid for it – we had experienced exactly such a situation when picking up the vehicle with a group of spanish girls.
The fact that we lost half a day for repairs at the beginning of our holiday was of course not mentioned with a syllable.

Reply to Camper Iceland:
Did you read my whole review? I don't think so. Please comment on the other points.
Also the tone of your response confirms only the unkindness of the staff.
And you can feel save, i will never rent a car at Camper Iceland again.

… looking at previous reviews, i still went ahead with using their services as some reviews from other sources were acceptable. we rented a motorhome for 6 adults and spent 9 days travelling the ring road (route 1). i took an excess insurance to cover max 拢5k before my holiday because i know a security deposit of no less than 2K EUR will be blocked on my credit card on collection of the vehicle. arrival instructions via youtube was emailed to me, we were collected promptly, detailed orientation of the vehicle and essential information around insurance cover, no hard selling when you say no. it is strongly advisable to do extra research when renting a vehicle. drop off was also straightforward. based on our experience, i am more than happy to recommend them, i am more than happy to use them again, and "no" i don't work for them if you are a skeptic. to Miko and our friendly Romanian driver – 6 thumbs up from happy ring road travellers.

(1) Camper Iceland sold us services that they did not deliver
(2) Our vacation was delayed because of their poor service
(2) Camper Iceland is very uncooperative
(3) Their rental vehicle wasn't close to being ready when we arrived and smelled horribly of body odor.

When we arrived in Iceland, no one showed up to shuttle us to their rental location (as we had paid for). Once we hired a taxi to bring us to the rental station, no one was there (despite having paid for the after hours service). The same situation happened upon departure (no one there and no one to shuttle us to the airport). Upon returning home, I contacted Camper Iceland with the expectation that they would clearly refund my money for these services. After a month without a response, I finally was interrogated via numerous emails by 1933 Group's station manager. It was clear that they were not going to refund my money despite the facts. I have never had such a poor customer service experience in my life and I highly recommend not using Camper Iceland.

1. They will try to charge you as much as they can by taking advantage of the fact that you are not well-acquainted with Icelandic laws.
2. They will charge you in ISK at a rate of their choosing which is 10-15% higher than the market rate.
3. You risk waiting around for hours since they are seriously understaffed (I had an entire day of plans squashed because of this).
4. Car was damaged when we received it AND all of the supplies we asked and paid for were not in the car.

Full story: We rented the 2-seater, freedom camper car from them. We wanted to make sure that we were fully insured, so we got the "super" insurance plan. On the second day we were out shopping at a Kronan supermarket, a construction truck backed into us while we were stopped. We filled out all of the appropriate paperwork and both parties involved agreed that the construction worker was at fault, which means that the construction company will have to pay the "self-risk". This is the explanation of self-risk ON THEIR WEBSITE

"If you hit another car by accident within the conditions of the rental agreement. The self risk of such an accident will be 200 鈧?per incident. If you get hit by another car and it鈥檚 not your fault (determined by the insurance company) you will not have to pay any self risk. The other vehicles insurance would in such a case cover your vehicle."

So, we shouldn't have had to pay any self-risk in the first place. The accident paperwork already noted that the accident wasn't our fault and that the construction car that hit us would be paying for the damages. But, they wanted to take advantage of the fact that I did not know Icelandic laws very well and said that "things work differently at our company and even if it is not your fault you have to pay the self-risk". WRONG, but the guy tried to act as friendly as he could and try to convince us. Shaken up and in a foreign country, I stupidly gave him the benefit of the doubt – especially because he made it sound like he was looking out for me.

Not only that, but when we received the car, the super insurance plan had a self-risk of 0 EUR. Apparently they have changed the insurance policy on Oct-1 and increased the self-risk amount (I rented the car mid September) but 0 self-risk was what the instruction we received said, what they told us, what was written all over their explanation brochures and website, what was written on the fine print of the contract and what we paid for. Then, when returning the car, they said that the self-risk was 2800 EUR even with the super insurance plan. They showed me the contract and there was a small part that said, Super insurance (Self-risk 2800 EUR), and then on the back of the contract in the fine print, it said that the super insurance had a self-risk of 0 EUR. The contract contradicted itself! We signed up for the super insurance BECAUSE it had a self-risk of 0 EUR. I should have caught that the contract contradicted itself, but we were waiting around forever to get the car, and they verbally explained to us that we had a self-risk of 0, so we signed the contract – I read the fine print before signing but didn't notice the one part that said self-risk 2800 EUR.

After he convinced me that I have to pay the damage to the car (even after I asked him multiple times, "even if it isn't your fault, you have to pay the self-risk? That makes absolutely no sense", and he replied "yes, things work very differently here in Iceland, I think it's very weird too"), he told me that I have to pay in Icelandic Krona. I said okay, and then he did the calculation on the calculator, and I felt like he was overcharging me, so I checked the market rate and the rate he was using. As I suspected, the rate was about 15% HIGHER than the market rate. I told him that the rate is far off the market rate, and he said "It's the Icelandic government, they regulate all the exchange rates for businesses and this is the rate that we businesses have to use". I told him I've never, ever heard of that happening and argued, but he kept telling me that I either pay all of it in EUR in CASH or I have to use this rate. I obviously don't have a couple thousand EUR in cash on me, so I was forced to agree to it.

Once I paid and left the rental office and got to my accommodation and started thinking straight again, I went through all of my paperwork, researched the policy on self-risk and exchange rates and realized that I shouldn't have paid anything.

Not only did he try to make me pay for the self-risk when I shouldn't have, our insurance policy clearly stated that the self-risk was 0 for the first accident so even if the accident was our fault, we should have still paid 0. I promptly made my way back over to the office, and despite the fact that I called beforehand and told them I was going to be there in 15 minutes, there was no one there. I paid for a cab ride there and I had to wait 45 minutes at the office (this is during regular business hours) for anyone to come back to the office. Once someone finally showed up, I told them that they need to refund me immediately. After arguing with them for 20 minutes and showing them the paperwork, they said, "Fine, I will give you the opportunity to get a refund. This is special, we don't do this regularly" and reluctantly gave me a refund. No apologies, nothing – in fact, he made it seem like he was doing me a favor. It was infuriating, and his coworker kept trying to cover for him when he got squirmy when I backed up my claims with evidence.

Do yourself a favor, do NOT use them.

We booked a 4×4 camper about 8 months in advance for the peak season. The cost was over Can $ 450 (plus all extras like insurance) a day.

We got a 鈥?lemon 鈥?and the company did not care. It does not seem as if they do any repairs during peak season and if something is wrong, the client can either fix it himself during his trip or endure it.

Here is a list of what was wrong with ours:

We were supposed to get our camper at 9am the first day and drop it off at 4 pm the last day. But the camper was not ready at 9 and we only left at 13hOO. (this meant we had to pay a full day鈥檚 fees for only 3 hours use.) Another client next in line to us, had to wait more than a day for their camper, which they also booked at least 8 months in advance.

We had to turn back because the fuel gauge showed empty all the time, and later because the emergency break light kept blinking. We were told that the fuel gauge does not work and the emergency break light does not work either and were asked to take it or leave it because it was a weekend. We were advised to put in gas on every opportunity we had, so as not to run out, seeing that the fuel gauge did not work. We were also advised to estimate the amount of fuel left by keeping track of the mileage. (Imagine doing that when traveling deeper inland)

At our first gas stop, we noticed the one tire was flatter than the rest. During the trip, it slowly leaked. As it kept on deflating, we called road side assistance for a flat tire (was advised by the sale staff to do so in case that happens because they did not know where the spare tire was) and the phone just kept ringing. It took a day to get through. Many promises were made towards getting things fixed on our trip, but they never happened. Customer service did not care at all.

It rained continuously and somewhere there was a leak in the camper from the small outside gutter on top, and the 3 of us were soon sleeping in a puddle that formed under our mattresses. We were told by Camper Iceland that this was condensation (we have a camper of our own at home and have often traveled in lots of rain and never got any puddles and wet mattresses from this). The same "gutter" also poured water onto the passenger seat as soon as the front door was opened.

Only one burner of the stove worked.
Only one reverse light worked.
The fridge had to be re-started at about every stop and about 2/3 into the trip it stopped working completely. (Camper Iceland never responded when we let them know of the problem)
The electric power outlets inside the camper did not work at all.

We had to buy a compulsory 鈥渃omfort kit鈥?for Can $300 beforehand. We are experienced campers and I would have loved to make my own combination. One can make a lovely comfort kit for $300. But, included was towels, 3 sheets (badly fitting single sheets on a double bed), 3 single blankets, of which one was wet. 2 pots with only one fitting lid. No can opener. No cups. About 18 plastic plates. About 20 saucers (the stuff that some people use with cups) I have no idea what the 20 saucers were meant for, apart from taking up valuable space.) Cutlery. We rented leveling blocks, but they were never included.
None of the cupboards closed well and after even a short drive, everything (like food 鈥?oil, honey, cereal, eggs) in the cupboards were scattered over the camper, broken and messy.

We emailed and called Camper Iceland and asked for a replacement camper. We were referred to a mechanic in Hofn, which of course, impacted our plans, with the promise that they will contact the mechanic and send him our list for repairs. But the mechanic were never contacted, never received the list and only repaired the tire in his workshop, for which we had to pay ourselves.

We bought some large plastic sheets to put under our mattresses to try and keep them dry. I also packed my own sleeping bags which saved us, because the blankets in their kit, was not sufficient (and wet, as mentioned).

I also bought duct tape which was a life saver and helped to secure the cupboards so we could at least store light stuff in them.

A "cleaning kit" costs 5000 kr to rent for the end cleaning of the camper. If you don鈥檛 clean the outside and inside of the camper yourself, it costs you 15000 kr extra, and if you don鈥檛 clean the porter potty, another 16000 kr.

Disadvantages of the 4×4 camper in general, even if everything is in working order: Its extremely heavy on fuel. The steering is exhausting and it鈥檚 a battle to keep on the road, even on the simple ring road, because its quite unstable and top heavy and wants to swerve off the road constantly (unless it鈥檚 a problem unique to our specific camper?)
The 4×4 camper is neither a stable 4×4 and neither a well designed comfortable camper. So, if you want a sturdy 4×4, this is not it. And if you want a moderately comfortable camper, its not for you either, because its too cramped.

We booked a camper van through Motorhome Republic, the information they provide is of a lovely camper van but the one we received (which looked to be one of the best) was in very poor condition and did in fact break down. This was then exchanged and on exchange the guy who bought it to us said he had bought the best to us. This one was also aged and had lots of wear and tear and guess what this one also broke down. We had to wait 5+ hours for the first one to be exchanged and then when the second one broke down late afternoon we were towed to a nearby campsite. The following day was the last day of our holiday so Camper Iceland picked us up in a car and took us to their depot and they were trying to blame us for mechanical failure.
When we arrived at Camper Iceland the instructions of the use of items in the camper van was VERY limited (the guy demonstrating the van was not very clear and skirted around any questions we asked). The van was fitted with an empty gas bottle, which took them awhile to sort because it had not been fitted correctly in the first place and then they struggled to fit the full one. I asked if it was compulsory to drive in Iceland with your headlights turned on, (which it is), Camper Iceland's response was well let's have a look at the traffic on the road coming by. I would of thought that a company hiring out vehicles would be able to answer any easy question like this!!
We have tried making a claim for the loss of at least one day of our holiday against Motorhome Republic and Camper Iceland but are not having much success.
PLEASE KEEP WELL CLEAR OF BOTH MOTORHOME REPUBLIC AND CAMPERICELAND.

We are a couple from Switzerland (50+) and we love Iceland so much!!
In fall 2016 I will visit Iceland for the 9th and my wife for the 11th time. During spring, summer and fall seasons we rent a 4×4 (comfort) camper from campericeland.is. I love to drive a Dodge Ram or a Ford 150 with a hard side camper. It is the right car for the highlands, for fording rivers, for very bad roads and also for bad weather conditions. It is a real pleasure …
But remember: Iceland is wild country (especially the highlands). The weather may change every 5 minutes ;-), the water level in the rivers may increase very fast, the wind may be so strong, that it will be nearly impossible to drive and in the highlands you may be many many hours away from the civilization.
So it is very important to prepare everything very carefully. Calculate the range of the car, take additional gas with you if necessary and be aware that something may go wrong or the weather or water stops you. Take enough food with you and warm clothes also during the summer time.
If you are well prepared, then you will experience a wonderful country, great landscapes, perfect lights for taking photos, sunrises and sunsets and much more…
For this great feeling of freedom and to stay in touch with the real nature you need a reliable companion, a good 4×4 camper from a very good, friendly and helpful company. Yes, we had also small trouble with the 4×4 campers, but the staff from campericeland.is helped us every time very fast. The gravel roads are poisonous for every car.
During taking over the car, check everything very carefully. Ask if somewhat is not clear. They will help you and explain whatever you would like to know.
Some points to check:
– How and where to fill the water tank
– How to use the heater -> very important!
– COx and gas warning equipment
– Fire-extinguisher
– Fridge, boiler, toilette, table
– Where is the battery
– How to change a gas bottle
– How to use the stove
– Check the car inside and outside
– Take time to get familiar with it
– Expect a heavy car! It will not behave the same way as your car at home
– Expect longer braking distance
– Drive carefully and concentrated

A good 4×4 camper is just one part for a wonderful trip the customer/tourist is the other one… use your common sense!

But the most important thing is: Respect everything at Iceland, the rules, the nature and the people and behave like a guest.

My best regards
Stefan

Our experience of traveling to Iceland has shown that you fall in Love with Iceland or you never want to get back. Well guess what, we come here every year to make photos and videos. We are in Love.
The Motor Home is the smartest Joyce because it allows us to decide where we want to be at what time. The small amount of accommodations vs. the amount of tourists is perhaps the reason. 320.000 people life in Iceland vs. 1.500.000 Tourists/year. If you choose to sleep in accommodations make sure to prebook it. The flexibility to travel towards good weather is then gone. That's why we chose Camper Iceland the first time in 2006. Since then we have been there almost every year.
If we explore the highland we choose camper Iceland because they have certain categories that no one else has. F.e. they where the first to provide a hard side camper and are yet the only ones that offer a 4×4 camper built strong enough and providing hot water and a toilet. The Motor Homes are reliable and economic. Ours used approx. 8 L/100km. When we travel we need to have a good service and a good maintained vehicle. The clouds would move rapidly and open a window for the sun to see through. That's when we are in position and ready to shoot. Thanks to the Camper Team. They provide a phone number and are reachable whenever we have a dummy question like on or last trip when we thought the heating did not work but our gas bottle was empty.

Thanks Camper Iceland for the wonderful service since we started in 2006.

I had a great time visiting Iceland travelling in a campervan from the campericeland company in Keflav铆k. Everything was allright and the stuff was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay with Campericeland a lot and I can warmly recommend the company. I'll be back soon again.

Camper vans are a great way of seeing Iceland, but our trip was completely spoilt both by the camper itself and by the attitude of the company – CamperIceland.is (part of the 1933 group) at Keflavik. We hired a top of the range 4×4 鈥淐amper Luxury鈥?but, in fact, we were sent out in a very tired, eight year old, dangerous vehicle with extremely poor brakes, three warning lights permanently on (including the one for the hydraulic brake system), a flat battery and a broken charging system (no water, lights, toilet etc). We raised the matter of the flat battery before we left the depot, but the mechanic dismissed our concerns out of hand, saying it would charge as soon as we started driving, but he didn鈥檛 investigate why it was flat鈥?the charging system wasn鈥檛 working. Customer service from CamperIceland.is is absolutely abysmal. They simply do not appear to care. They certainly don鈥檛 reply if you have the audacity to make a complaint. So, have a great time hiring a camper in Iceland but, whatever you do, be extremely wary of who you choose to hire from!

We picked Camper Iceland as it was slightly cheaper than other rental companies. Sadly what is not included in the price is a decent level of service.
We arrived to pick up our car and were told that there had been an "unexpected problem" and it would have been ready the morning after in perfect conditions. They gave us a room for the night and a car for the afternoon. We thought fair enough and were not too bothered about losing half a day. The day after we left with the camper van (a VW caddy).
3 days before we had to return the caddy, the steering wheel stopped working, as the right wheel got disconnected from it. We lost another afternoon getting it repaired and were lucky enough that it happened in the middle of a town and not on one of the many deserted Icelandic roads.
The sales team never apologized, they agreed only to refund us for 1 day of rental ( as we've lost also our whale watching trip because of the car).
We were told it's absolutely normal for a car to break down so just be aware that if you rent a car from them you might or might not have control over both of your front wheels at all times. Go with any other company, they might be expensive but at least you won't risk your lives.
