Buildzoom accepts reviews of a contractor from the people that hired a contractor. Buildzoom will not accept a review of a contractor by an adversely affected third party. For example, my neighbor hired Anchor Fenceworks to build a fence. The contractor built the fence from my property. The contractor did not have permission to be in our yard. They drove a mobile power auger across our property to drill post holes. They left the dirt and rocks from the post holes on my property. They did not clean it up. They used part of my materials to help them build the fence. They damaged a bunch of plants I was overwintering in my back yard. I called Anchor Fenceworks about the damage and the guy hung up on me.

Under Alaska law I believe Anchor Fenceworks committed a criminal offense.

AS 11. 46. 330. Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree.
(a) A person commits the crime of criminal trespass in the second degree if the person enters or remains unlawfully
(1) in or upon premises; or
(2) in a propelled vehicle.
(b) Criminal trespass in the second degree is a class B misdemeanor.

Anchor Fenceworks employees entered our property twice without permission. The first time they drove a mobile power auger around on our property to drill post holes. The second time they came and stayed on our property most of the day. They used and damaged our property. I am currently filing a complaint with the State of Alaska regarding their business license.

I wrote a review of Anchor Fenceworks for Buildzoom as an adversely affected third party. The moderation team, in their infinite wisdom, refuses to accept a review from an adversely affected third party. They don't care the contractor trespassed and damaged property in the process. That tells me that Buildzoom is being dishonest to the general public. I think it's very dishonest when the moderation team knows something adverse about a contractor but they don't want to tell the general public. They refuse to accept a review to that effect because it isn't part of their guidelines to accept a review from an adversely affected third party, guidelines the moderation team likely wrote themselves. After all, they wrote the guidelines, how could they possibly be wrong. What the general public doesn't know is just too bad. To the general public, if you were hiring a contractor would you not want to know how that contractor is likely to treat your neighbor? If the contractor destroys your neighbor's property that neighbor might well sue you for damages. Keep in mind, you hired that contractor and turned him loose on your neighbor. I think the moderation team is dishonest for refusing to accept reviews from adversely affected third parties. They are withholding potentially important information from the general public. Buildzoom has had 67 complaints filed against them through the Better Business Bureau in the past 3 years. Why would anyone trust them?

Spent a good deal on the phone with their representative to get the ball rolling on my kitchen remodeling project. I'm told there are probably 3 or 4 GOOD choices in the way of contractors. I even listen to their big sell on an expensive 'premium service'. I politely decline the extra service and we agree to talk several days later to further the project. Several hours after the end of the phone call, I get a written message we are not a 'good fit'. I can only guess that those that buy into the 'premium service' (which added thousands of dollars) get to 'play ball'.

Last month I googled my company's name. Instead of my website popping up like it has for the last ten years, the top of the search was dominated by the text of a fraudulent, negative generic one-star review of my company. This was window for the BuildZoom website. The fraudulent review was purportedly written by someone named "Shanelle" who I've never met, and who our company has never worked for. The review didn't mention any specific work, or the name of anyone in my company, nor a time frame or general location. It was just an insulting series of generic negative comments. I have never signed up for BuildZoom nor gave them permission to collect and assemble their "profile" of my business. This profile has a partial list of building permits that I have pulled in the last 23 years with personal information of my clients, including addresses and job costs. Their site also had inaccurate info regarding my license, location etc. They seem to be compiling this personal and business info from public records and then assigning a "score" based on their partial/inaccurate findings. They admitted that they allow anyone to post a review on their site without any specific verification and that, in order to have it removed, I need to sign up for their site and complete my "profile" (which I did) then they will accept a written explanation from me about why the review is fraudulent. I have no idea how long this false review has been visible to the public. Every time I click on it, the date of the review changes, spanning the last 7 years. Eventually they removed the fake review from their website. My "profile" says there are no reviews as of last week. However, when you Google the name of my business, the text of the fraudulent negative review still appears at the top of the google search with its one-star graphic. On a link to the BuildZoom website. This fake review has done damage to my business and BuildZoom does not seem interested in fixing the damage that they are responsible for. They also refuse to remove my company's name, listing and "profile" from their website.

H Contractors are the company I chose to handle this project. They came in with a reasonable estimate and have stuck within that amount. The work has been fantastic and so have been the follow up each step of the project. Highly recommend this contractor.

Marcos (owner Vista Mar Builders) was hands on, him and his crew were professional and courteous. after the project job was done he reached out to make sure me and my wife were happy with the work. I would recommend his company to anyone planning a remodel big or small.

I had tried to get good contractors to come out. Most wouldn't show up, half never called back. When I just about gave up I found Buildzoom. Buildzoom helped me out and I'm forever grateful for this service. I was able to pick out of three contracting companies that actually wanted to do business and the one I went ahead with knocked it out of the park. Couldn't be happier and will tell my coworkers and friends about it.

Unfortunately for us Brown Construction was chosen to replace the roof on our home, an expensive project. The funds used was my total savings, a federal grant, contributions from private citizens through an agency.

Due to long term homeowners insurance Farmers Ranchers refusing to pay a claim on our destroyed roof in a snow, blizzard, falling trees issue: the only one submitted in over 15 years of their policy; which did cover such, ensuing in a long term legal battle. We had to seek relief from the ongoing constant damage to our home and our suffering, of years to the unbearable cold, storms, etc. Small children were at constant risk inside their own home.

The results was poor structure, also the Contractor/sub contractor, without permission of owner and overriding my frantic objections during the process … removed the original front eves of the home, the remaining eves had old/rotted wood left within, covered by new fascia board. Many procedures in the project indicate cutting corners for more profit than the original low bid would allow…

Cutting corners to make extra income on the contract gained by a low bid, isn't exactly ethical nor in the best interest of the homeowner and structure.

The eves, that were removed by that Contractor, also old wood left within the remaining eves must of course be replaced….

Most companies who pick up the federal grants or related assume whomever controls the payment, is the owner I guess, they need not confer with the tax payer owner, who dwells within, can treat them in any manner they chose.

When I objected to the Forman on the destruction of the eves among other things, I was basically shoved aside, he then barked orders of , cut the *&^* off that's all she's getting, and they did, excuse me,??? There was no reason for this other than extra profit… this presents a structure problem and a weak area after replacement by an ethical contractor who does the best they can….never as solid as original… This is devastating, also the men's reactions to my objections while the damage was occurring was unconscionable……inexcusable.

I have a professional working background with, Halliburton….Brown and Root in construction, consider my statements as Public protection concern….. I think these people were not expecting my knowledge of construction, and take advantage of people who do not have.
Recent estimate cost to repair damage done to our home by Brown Construction is in the range of $30,000.00

BBB records show a license number of ZC0001253 for this company, issued by City of Amarillo. There was never an inspection release signed by City inspectors, nor did the City require the damage corrected. We were left holding massive problems.
