I've only ever seen one person being charged for damage whist I was returning my car. Judging from the mud and mess inside the car I assume the charge was fair.

I have rented cars for decades now using other companies and this is the first time I have come across any issues. I definitely will not be using Budget again!
I don鈥檛 usually write reviews, but I feel so aggrieved that I felt I had to. If you don鈥檛 take notice of all these bad reviews, please take photo evidence and keep receipts for fuel and the condition of the car as they will take money off you without discretion.

I have a booking on 10th of January, they charge me when I made the booking in19th of December, and yesterday they charged me again with the same amount, basically they charge me twice for the same booking.
If you have any other companies to chose from, do it , avoid this one.
I tried to speak with someone from customer service and they hang out the phone without any explanation!!!!!

I've been waiting 6 weeks for them to reply to an email regarding additional unapproved charges on a rental. Worst car rental experience I've ever had.
Choose Europcar, Hertz… pay the extra few 拢's as Budget will end up costing a lot more in the long run.

Made a reservation at London Heathrow. When I went to collect the car it was 鈥渦navailable鈥? After 40mins they gave me an upgrade which I noted was covered in scratches and dents. Fortunately I made a note of all the damages and got them
Signed by the Budget staff before I left with the car. The next day I returned the car to a different airport as scheduled. No staff available to check in the car (staff too lazy to walk to the car park).
A month later I finally get the invoice for the rental…. with an additional 拢500 for damages! My card has already been debited for this amount. Budget a rudely not answering any emails. Phone operators are unable to assist and say someone will email shortly (2weeks and still no emails). Upon visiting the depot which I returned the car to they were able to tell me what alleged damages had been caused – all those which I had highlighted when I collected the vehicle… but they were also unable to help and they also assured me someone would email me soon!
Basically these thieving 鈧?*?$ have taken money from my account and are unable to justify why!
On average I rent a car twice a month (From Europcar) and have done so for the past 8 years. Not once have I had and issue… until I rented from Budget!
If you have the option use another company. Their customer service is appalling, verging on non existent. They are disreputable and untrustworthy. If you have to rent from them make sure you have photographic and video evidence of every little scratch, scrape and dent – bodywork, wheels (including spare), windscreen, upholstery, fuel level and do this when you collect and drop off the vehicle. Ensure that a budget staff member checks over the vehicle regardless of what they say and get them to sign and say the vehicle is fine. And then also keep the photos, videos and rental agreement which indicates any existing damage for At least two months after the rental has ended.

On return to the UK I emailed Budget to express my dissatisfaction with, what I considered bad business practice. I received an automated reply saying I should get a response with 14 working days. I waited four weeks and then e mailed again getting the same automated response back. I have had no contact from them. I guess they have my money so why would they bother. I would not recommend them to anyone and will never use budget again. I would actually have understood if they had contacted me and said 'sorry but nothing we can do' but they didn't even have the courtesy to do that!

YOU WON'T BE SAFE ON THE ROAD AND ANYWHERE!
1) We have booked a car for 5 people 5 doors – we have received a small 3 doors car – it was impossible to even squash.
2) Car was dirty, unsafe, very old, one of the covers from the wheel fell out during driving and it went under the car – very dangerous!
When I showed to CS, they didn't care at all. Shocking!
3) Customer Service was very rude, poor communication, not helpful at all.
4) They gave us also a car with a flat battery, so while driving we had to call for help! Ridiculous.
5) OUR CAR HAS BEEN HACKED A FEW HOURS AFTER RENTAL ON THE CAR PARK IN FRONT OF THE DOOR TO SUPERMARKET.
POLICE SAID, THAT SOME "gang" CAN COOPERATE WITH THIS COMPANY, TRACK A CAR FULL OF SUITCASES AND THEN THEY USED SOME CODE TO EASILY OPEN OUR CAR.
POLICE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT SOMEONE USED A SPECIAL CODE TO OPEN THE CAR WITHOUT A KEY AND WITHOUT DAMAGES.
THEY STOLE EVERYTHING FROM OUR CAR WITHOUT DAMAGING THE DOOR!
COMPANY WAS NOT SHOCKED AND WHEN WE ASKED ABOUT HOW THIS CAR IS SAFE AND PROTECTED- THEY SAID: Well, there is nothing to do now. sorry for your lost.
This company used a million excuses to cover their……., but Police have confirmed that this case is very unusual and it looks like BUDGET is cooperating with some people to track a customer and then HACK A CAR!!!
I have all the proof from the police and we will be raising a court case against this company.
Please do not use them! I am warning all my friends, everybody around me.
You will be hacked at some point and they will not care about the safety of the car and not about your safety too.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST.

Car was prepaid for.
Got there, collected car, and was told the system was down so I couldn't sign to say everything was okay etc … but noticed when I got in the car, it was only 3/4 full. I told the people in the office, and they said they would make a note, and just to return 3/4 full.
Returned it on time, with no damage. To be told i owed 拢75.00 for non return of full car.
Whilst dealing with this, I received an email with the agreement on that showed full to full for fuel.
I had taken photos to prove it was 3/4 plus had told them as mentioned above. They agreed to remove the fuel surcharge, but then said I owed 拢20.55, as I had underpaid.
I tried to discuss with the 2 lads in the office, but they said they only had 10 days of experience between them, and I should email them.
Did that 19 days ago, and have still to received a response.
Have emailed them multiple times, and looks like reading all the complaints, I wont receive anything back.
I am a lucky one I think having lost 拢20, compared to some.
I rent a car twice a month, and have only used Budget this once, and I wont again.
I have used Avis – who are part of the same group, in the same office, with the same people, and never had an issue.
If I could give 0 stars I would.

Budget car rental is an American company that doesn't understand EU driving and licensing laws. My husband and I have drivers licenses from our own (EU) countries. We live in The Netherlands and have credit cards here. Legally, we don't need to convert our licenses until they expire, which is several years away.
We booked a Mercedes class C for our wedding in one of our home countries. We paid in advance and provided all the necessary information. Only when we arrived in Fiumicino were we told that their software system requires that your credit card address and your drivers license share the same address. This was not included in the terms and conditions. It was a disaster. We spent three (3) hours trying to solve this, calling customer service ourselves, trying to get some kind of assistance. There was no remedy; they did not give us a refund. Thankfully, we had reserved through RentalCars.com and they provided us a refund. We had to threaten a lawsuit in order to get a reasonable amount of compensation from Budget.
In the end, Europcar saved us, and we were able to book a car. We travel frequently and have not found another company that has this policy. Expats, book literally anywhere else to avoid this problem.

This meant we had to return the car several days into our rental period which we did expecting a courtesy gesture for doing so. They refused to offer anything which meant we had given up our time and expense to put right their mistake which is the reason for the poor review and why we not recommend Budget or use them in the future. With 3 days notice they cancelled her booking because they had run out of vans
She was promised a refund within 3 days.
STILL NOT HAD HER REFUND & BUDGET ARE NOW SAYING THAT THEY HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER REQUEST WHICH WITH THE WEEKEND WOULD TAKE 5 DAYS
