Warning of poison

I have a Brome Squirrel Buster. It works great in preventing the naughty squirrel stealing the food. But something I'm unhappy with and have noticed for sometime is that the food resting in the tray at the bottom have been turning black. At first I thought the blackening was due to the seeds being the tray for too long. So I just kept scraping the blackened seeds off the tray (as they caked up at the bottom), clean the tray and refill the feeder. But then I notice the same is not happening with other non-Brome feeders in that the old seeds do not turn black. So now I realised it is the Brome feeder tray alone has this problem – it looks like the Brome feeder tray is made of metals that can transfer colour into the food, turning the seeds black. I now fear my garden birds might be getting metal poisoning by the Brome feeder I have.
