Bought a grill in 2017. A fantastic piece of equipment so far, but the item has problems with rust. At the beginning of this season I had to knock rust of in flakes from the "stainless steel" burners and from what I call the cook box. In my humble opinion a box is closed with 4 sides. If that's not the case then just call it the lid. My grill, a Baron 490, was so rusted in the lower box, where the burners go trough it, that I could break it of in pieces. I know that usually with a corrosion warenty it's a matter of penetration, but when it starts to rust at the edge and "chews" of in pieces, I call that 100% penetration.
So I contacted the manufacturers agent, and told him about the problem. I even enclosed pretty grose looking pictures. It's fair to say, his response was not as expected.
First of they claim, that a lid is a box, and therefor anything below has only two years warenty. My grill is 2 years almost on the spot. And they further claimed, that it would take years, before the rust would have any effect in the grill. So it didn't matter.
My counter argument was, that if I bought a new car, in it had heavy rust in the exterior part of the wheel box, it would take years before it had any effect on the car, but I would still expect to have it fixed for free.
This is not a low price product, and they claim to be worth every penny. I'm not so sure anymore. Probably should have bought Weber instead. At least they have a minimum of 10 years over-all warranty on products of simular price. Very disappointed.
