Britbox

We've decided to go with Britbox today and set it up. We haven't been able to watch more than 2 minutes of anything without the whole thing freezing. It's really difficult finding programmes too, the search facility is crap. All in all, a poor start. I recommend that people don't bother.

A corporation that has used bully boy tactics for years to get their licence fee. Then squanders it , and feeds the nation a diet of pc/sjw crap and endless repeats. And then has the nerve to make the licence holders to pay again to watch the shows they have already funded on britbox! Pay per view funding needs to be forced on them!

I've an issue with the concept. BBC programming is paid for by TV licence so paying for it is simply wrong. It should be in iPlayer and simply available for those who have TV Licence. Bearing in mind any ITV content was paid for by ads it's a total rip off imo.

Service itself works ok though search function doesn't actually search hence the 2 stars. This may work for those with a rose tinted view of old and often awful TV from yesteryear but I don't have that view. Granted the last point is my opinion only. I had a look but not impressed enough there to follow through and buy.

If everyone says it's crashed and they don't care.
I won't touch with a dorky stick either…
For a start I can get it on my Main Sony Android Smart TV. So if it crashes and burns, I won't be getting my money back.
It looks like it changed hands to someone very clumsy in every way, that doesn't care about their customers. The only reply I've seen is contact their site with out further comment…

Was excited to get more of my fave shows in canada with the britbox subscription. While i am able to watch without too many issues buffering etc, the interface is terrible, hard to use and doesnt store where you watched up to correctly most of the time. Also the subtitles are usually wrong and clearly were created by a person/machine that has trouble understanding many british accents!

Paying twice? No thanks. Content on Britbox should be on iPlayer and free for licence fee payers.

Software is very poor. Login impossible. Can't actually receive content. Why are we paying for this content given that we've paid for the licence?

Prompted to login to Britbox and enter a code. Won't connect to the Britbox page, and eventually find a way to login, and it just hangs with the hourglass. Absolute garbage. I hate it when these technical services fail on the most basic processes. And then you can't get customer service. An absolute joke! I'm blocking my payment. I'm not paying for this utter incompetence.

Why pay again for BBC's content, when I've already paid for it via the unfair license

AlthoughThe programming is extensive, the app it鈥檚 self is horrible!!

I鈥檝e had the service for all of us one day and I have had to uninstall and reinstall the app three times. Each time I leave the app, I have to jump through hoops to sign back in going to the brit box website to reconnect to my fire TV. I鈥檝e spent more time wrestling with the app then I have viewing the content!

Until or unless they improve this wretched app, there鈥檚 way too much entertainment out there through apps that actually work and are easy to navigate. BritBox is not one of them!

Save your money!! It鈥檚 an absolute shame in 2020 with technology so readily available that this particular forum should be such a disaster!

Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I cancelled my account and 7 days later have still not received the promised confirming email. Their USA phone number is useless.
If you want a good British platform I suggest you try Acorn Tv.

You sign up & pay; they try to charge you again 4 months into your annual service, then claim you never paid, you want to cancel, you are on a monthly, a constant barrage of insults to you the consumer. The service is also junk and NOT worth a dime. Service stops, bad streaming, I can't say enough bad things about it. THEY ARE CHEATS! Stay away and go one to other services so much better and reliable, nice people, NOT BritBox.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. 1) I had the 7 day free trial 2) Forgot my password 3) Clicked on link to reset my password 4) Was told a reset link would be sent to my email. 4) Never got the reset link 5) Tried 3 more times, was told the same thing, and NEVER got an email with the reset link 6) Called Britbox, listened to that stupid idiot talk while I was on hold for 20 minutes, and was finally told to call back later and was hung up on. 7) Called back, same BS, although I didn't listen to the stupid idiot, I stayed on the line to see what what would happen —same thing, 20 minutes on hold and hung up on. 8) Meanwhile I couldn't take advantage of my 7 day free trial. 9) Called Amazon. They responded immediately, told them I was done with Britbox and why, and they immediately CANCELLED my free trial for me and any future association w/Britbox. I've told everyone about my experience. What a scam!

After I bought a one year subscription, Britbox billed me for a renewal after only nine months. And they wouldn't let me login unless I paid for a renewal! Their web site would freeze up when ever you tried to communicate with customer service. When I finally found a telephone number for Britbox, a recorded message told me to use their web site! Roku was no help in resolving the issue.

I purchased a subscription with BritBox year beginning 2019. All was going well throughout 2019 until a friend gave me a present of an annual subscription on December 25, 2019 for year 2020. Since then I've had problems viewing, requests for my credit information, and a complete disregard (no response) for any email I had sent. I really have to wonder whether my emails have been read because when I did eventually receive a response the issue had neither been resolved or understood. I've sent off another email requesting viewing rights and am awaiting a response from Elizabeth, Customer Service. Given the choice between BritBox and Acorn I would choose Acorn TV every time

I was unable to log in for at least 2 months on Britbox and once they fixed it, they gave me NO compensation what so ever. They basically stole from me. I can't even tell you how many times I contacted them during those 2 months trying to get help. Terrible customer service! I'm going to try Acorn.

The site has some good content – not great as you'd probably think of lots of stuff (many, many comedies for instance) which could be great on here. I suspect the PC brigade have probably stopped many of them being shown.

The app is awful with programmes erroring if paused and, the worst part, the need to activate with a code everytime it's used. I wouldn't bother until they add a bit more content anyway – it's okay if you like Downton and Dr Who and can put up with the appalling application

I watched a Detective story on this website recently. I am used to not seeing violence on British TV. This one is horrifying, with graphic TV images of bodies of girls recently killed. This is not suitable for US TV or anyone. Most of the stuff does not have recognized actors. My wife started crying and departed my home. Shame on you. I will unsubscibe.

My free trial for britbox is now nearly up and decision time. Well i will continue with my subscription for now as there is still content i wish to watch.
As i said in my first review this is in no way a netflix alternative and dont think it was ever intended to be, its just a huge back catalogue of the uk tv services.
I personally use this as an extra to my amazon prime subscription to access content you cant find anywhere else. Yes you can get some of the content on the free catchup services but not all of it and certainly not what im watching. If you can have only one streaming subscription then this is probably not for you as i see it as extra service to other services.
I like britbox its easy to use has a watchlist and a continue watching section which makes life easy.
The whole point of a free trial is to test something out its easy to cancel if its not for you and hasnt cost you anything, but i certainly wouldnt knock britbox as its something different from other services.

Britbox review.
The name hints at how cheap, shallow and fickle it is. The term 'Brit' or British brings up images of Brexit -a low point in democracy, Bojo (constant liar and pathetic con man) and angry tabloid readers frothing at the mouth.

It is a desperate service. It freezes and buffers alot. Has mainly outdated programmes that lack substance if you're under 50 with a basic education and not much im quantity either, if you like that. I didn't plan to bring it down to the level of British politics but the comparison just glaringly presents itself.

Try the free month and see for yourself why you won't want to pay for a desperate attempt at glorifying tacky Britishness.

Although Britbox has an impressive collection of programmes it is badly let down by just not being user friendly. An example; when you have watched a programme and want to delete it from the "continue watching", if you google how to do this it tells you to go to the watchlist at the top of the screen…….problem is is that it's not there!
Designed by people who obviously don't use Britbox themselves!!

I watched Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, and there were scenes that had been edited out, which makes no sense.
Now I'll be paying attention to see whether this is what Britbox does as a rule, or what. Since there are no commercials, why would they need to pare it down. Disappointing.

Advertising – flagship system all the best of ITV, BBC etc. Reality – poorest performance and functionality of any of the platforms. Freezes, resets, fails, restarts. The only reliable bit that never fails is the direct debit. That works OK.
