Worst experience ever — Carmel claims to be available "worldwide" but they just contract out to local car services and take no responsibility when things go wrong. They left my elderly Dad stranded for roughly 30 minutes at the airport and kept lying about where they were. Dispatch explained it wasn't a Carmel Car so they were trying to reach the company they subcontracted to. I tried to speak to Customer Service after this experience but they are evasive. They leave messages to go to the website to explain your issue. There is no direct-line to a human in Customer Service. Please check other sites and you will find Carmel has horrible reviews/ratings. I have never been treated so poorly before – AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

I was a prepaid on-line car service from LGA to Manhattan Upper East Side & Return.

The drivers were responsive, courteous & professional.

The driver from East Side to LGA took the shortest, fastest route without prompting. This is important to prepay customers.

The driver easily met all my Rider Rights.

Can鈥檛 even begin to explain how awful their customer service was! We booked a car for 6 people and 6 luggage, when we arrived at the airport, they gave us a car which would fit 6 people in but only 3/4 luggage… The driver had his own bags etc in the boot which he wouldn鈥檛 removed and when he said we won鈥檛 be able to all fit we explained to him that we have booked for 6 people and 6 luggage and showed him the paperwork. The driver wasn鈥檛 very interested in the paperwork and just kept telling us that "we won鈥檛 fit". So he rang up his employer and handed the phone to us where we explained to them the situation and we were told "they don鈥檛 have a car big enough" and when questioned as to why they let us book for that amount and then took our money they had no answer. Their solution was to send another car and asked us to pay extra for this! Obviously, we said no, as we had already paid for that service and that if you can鈥檛 provide us the service that we have already paid for then it should be for them to sort out and to foot the expense of this. This went on for about half an hour to 40 minutes where the driver kept trying to get in his car and drive off, the only reason he didn鈥檛 was because we had his phone. Regardless of the countless times we had to repeat ourselves they still didn鈥檛 understand how they were in the wrong so we disputed this with Expedia and informed them that we want a full refund and that we will be putting in a claim for costs which Carmel can pay for any money we are out of pocket on. The driver then snatched the phone out of my pregnant sisters鈥?hand and drove off! Completely unacceptable! So rude and arrogant! Also, when Expedia spoke to them, they also lied and said "we wouldn鈥檛 get in the car" not the fact that they didn鈥檛 provide a car big enough! It was clear to Expedia that they were being deceitful as we would鈥檝e got in the car if it had been big enough. So not only are they rude and ignorant they are also liars as well.

Terrible Service. The driver never showed up at O Hare. Besides when I called their dispatch they were rude and un polite, kept my money and told me they did not care of any bad review. After reading the most of the reviews I can see that they mean this. Never Hire Them. Trust me.

The driver demanded a 20% tip and I found him intimidating. He also overcharged me for the road toll. I emailed Carmel to complain and they didn't even have the courtesy to reply to me. I will not be using them again!

Booked well in advance for a ride to catch a plane. As I waited at the curb for my car which was late, received a text they would be there in 10 minutes. Then another text with a 15-minute delay. Then a text saying sorry, we won't be able to pick you up! Called Dial 7–they arrived in a few minutes and charged less than Carmel. WIll never use Carmel again.

I had used Carmel car service for years and they had always been reliable. However, in the past year, they have stood me up three times. They called to say they were running 10 min late. After waiting 15 min, I called the dispatcher to learn that they have no cars. No call to me to tell me that. I had reserved this car two days before. How do they book a ride without knowing if they will have a driver? I am totally disgusted with this company. Yes, they are more reasonable than other car services, but not worth the aggravation of trying to figure out another way to get to your destination at the last minute. Shame on me for giving them so many chances. Three times and you鈥檙e out!

Made it to JFK with time to spare! My driver did not delay in getting me to my fly on time. The ride was smooth for it to be midday JFK travel coming from Northern Westchester. Great job!

Excellent service and the only one I use in New York City. The driver was early and got me to the airport with plenty of time to spare. He was also friendly and was an excellent driver. I appreciated the service. This is my own opinion and not that of anyone else.

Booked my wife for pick up at LGA picked up on time all perfect was quoted 38.75 fare not including tip and tolls. At destination my wife told it would be 55$ they went over 59th street bridge. No toll When questioned the driver said just give me 50.00 wife felt driver aggressive and just wanted to get her bag out of trunk fearing the driver could run off. Horrible and dangerous. Booked for my daughter to be picked up at Met Life Stadium after a concert. They came and left her stranded at 12 midnight. Driver went to wrong lot then had some story that she had to leave. She had to make her way to train and got back to NYC then had to uber home making it 2 am. Told us to call a different service. Never again.

Booked a trip bundle, including airport transfer to hotel thru Carmel. Price was great….till I called them directly about my itinerary to confirm.
Had difficulty with communicating my questions…then was GRILLED with questions about how many people (3–I booked for that many!)–how many BAGS, etc….
When I told them same as the airplane–3 carry on bags/3 personal items/3 people….I started getting the spiel that I need a van instead of a sedan. MORE MONEY, of course!
I TRIED to explain that if we can drive 3 1/2 hrs to the airport with the same people/baggage, we can surely ride from the airport to the hotel in the same size vehicle. (We are using a NIssan Sentra–very small!)

I got BAD feelings about my call and the INQUEST— so called to find out about options to cancel with booking company. (no prob) Then while I was on the phone calling other options for quotes, Carmel called me BACK to BACK to BACK 6 times!!! I answered once and told the woman I was on the other line; she STILL called me back over and over and over!!!
HARASSED by this company before ever using them! SOOOOO glad I backed out of this potential disaster!!!!

Do your homework before you book! Check reviews on various sources!! Transportation issues from airport to hotel and back can RUIN a vacation!!

I have used Carmel before and it was ok. I gave them another chance and it was a disaster. I booked a 1-14 Sprinter van for a group arriving at LGA. The van was not there when we arrived and they seemed to be surprised we were there when I called, despite confirming the day before. They finally showed up 1 hour and 15 minutes late with a van that only held 11 passengers (I paid for 14 passengers) we had to incur more expense but 3 members of our group taking a taxi. Then the van they sent had a broken air conditioner on a 90 degree day. A miserable sweltering drive. Calls and emails have gone unanswered. No attempt by Carmel to make this right. Buyer beware.

I unfortunately did not come across these reviews when I booked Carmel, had I, I definitely would not have booked them. I travelled from the UK to New York and received an email around 10pm 27th May and was due to fly out 2pm 29th May. The email said that I needed to call a number once I had collected my suitcases upon arriving in New York. My first thought was, how much is this phone call going to cost me?! I queried with them if there was another form of contact, being from the UK calling a USA number would be costly for me. They told me to find the nearest customer service desk and ask to use their phone. Ok so I get off a 7.5 hour flight and first I have to travel around the airport looking for a point of assistance? great! I though to myself, it's my fault I didn't read the small print that they are not a meet and greet service so will just have to pay for the phone call I make. Before leaving the UK I asked them to confirm how long I would have to wait for them to pick us up – convinced now I should have booked someone else but it's already too late, I can't get a refund. I was told I would be waiting 5-7 minutes and even online on Expedia it reads that on maximum a customer would need to wait 10 minutes. We were waiting 30 minutes in the pouring rain!
The journey to our hotel wasn't great either, not bothered by the pouring rain and continuous skidding of the car the driver continued to drive fast until I told him to slow down. This should be common sense to any half decent driver.
We knew we would have to pay for toll charges (even though no toll roads were taken) and tip would be at our discretion, however we were told to pay $20 for toll roads and tips – we didn't have a choice in the matter. Again no toll roads were taken so I'm not sure what we're paying for.
On the return journey back to the airport from the hotel the driver was late and I had to call the company twice to find out where he/she was. they were 15 minutes late. Not sure what the excuse was for the lateness because it's not as if we were getting off a flight and would need to collect luggage?! Although this time we were given a choice of tip, once again we had to pay for the non existent toll road.
We booked via Expedia who were very understanding and were of the impression that the point of booking a taxi in advance is to avoid any waiting around or paying too much, however neither happened with Carmel so they would speak with Carmel regarding a refund. They spoke to Carmel who whilst accepted they were late, denied me a refund. I would pay the extra when picking a transfer so you're not dealing with a company who will charge you extra for non existent roads and tips (even when they put your life at risk). I wish I had seen these reviews before I booked Carmel.

My daughter ordered and pre-paid for a car to take myself and husband from Roosevelt Island to JFK to catch an international flight on the 1 June. Five minutes after the time the car was due to turn up, they phoned my daughter to say that they didn't have a car in the area and wouldn't commit to a time to pick us up. We cancelled the Carmel car and found a local car service to take us to the airport, though at considerably higher cost. If Carmel knew in advance that they couldn't supply the service, why did they not make contact in good time so that we could make alternative arrangements without panic. We have used this service for a number of years but will not do so again.

I booked a trip to the airport and the driver could not find my address to pick me up. He called and was unable to communicate with me effectively in English. After about 30 minutes of discussion with Carmel鈥檚 office and indirectly with the driver we discovered he was 10 minutes away. Because I was concerned about missing my flight I had to grab a taxi to get to the airport. To add insult to injury Carmel charged me for the service that they were unable to provide because of their incompetent driver. I would avoid using this substandard car service.

Short story: use Uber! Long story: I have never been treated as such a fool before.. when booking the app was saying $55~ but as soon as we reach destination the driver wanted to charge us $75! Driver simply washes his hands saying it鈥檚 not his call and that we should talk to the manager. Called the manager on spot just to receive a response of a non-stop-talking parrot yelling and never letting you discuss the situation at all! The police had to come and that鈥檚 when the driver spits out that it was an $12~ fees (which is neither detailed in their receipt) and 15% of self imposed tips that he was hiding from the very start. The only reason we chose Carmel was because it was way cheaper than Uber but they simply hide the actual price in the app until the very end of the trip when you (without doubts) end up with a surprised face. Uber was $65 but telling you from the very beginning and without trying to scam you. Conclusion: why bother downloading a new app which simply steals your data and won鈥檛 ever be honest with the price until the trip is finished?

Over half an hour late for hotel pick up!. We were due to be picked up from our hotel to travel to the airport and asked to be in the lobby 15mins before pick up time, which was 4.15am. We waited and waited and waited. It was now 4.40am, after calling Carmel (and talking to VERY rude staff – he cut me off and i had to call back) they said the driver had been waiting for over 25 minutes. It turns out he was at the wrong hotel! Despite confirming the day before and our email stating the correct hotel the company tried to blame us. Eventually the driver pulled up at 4.50am (over half an hour after the agreed time!). We were then on a race against time to get to the airport and ensure we dod not miss the flight home!. AVIOD this unprofessional company at all costs! I pre booked this service so expected it to be more professional and on time!.

We prebooked our taxi service from JFK Airport to Times Square. Landed at JFK collected our luggage after 14 hours of travelling all we wanted to do was get to our destination. We rang and rang serveral different numbers not one of them was answered. Therefore no taxi turned up they had already taken the money from our account, I emailed and complained via the website but no communication was received and no refund!!! I wouldn鈥檛 use this company at all just grab a taxi at the airport it鈥檚 so much easier and hassle free!
