This is an excellent program. Among other things, it does an excellent job of converting files from PDF or EPUB formats to MOBI or AZW formats. It successfully preserves diacritics and other uncommon fonts. The online convertors I tried weren't nearly as effective. The software does many other things in addition to converting files, but I haven't had a need for those features as of yet.

This is a good open source Ebook manager.
Another key point is they have links to DRM free books. Most people don't realize it but when they download most digital media they just agreed to horrific terms. You wont own the media, They probably reserve the right to rummage through your computer, possibly even delete any files… You really really need to start reading terms first!

I have heavy filters and heavier malware protection. When your career rests on the files and notes on your laptop you better be sure when you download programs that you are not going to lose everything. This so far has passed my expectations of safe secure user friendly usage. I will update if it no longer appears to be as safe in the future as it is now.

A decent ebook converter, does a good job at letting users create pdfs of their own books if they purchase one. The best thing about this is that it's completely free to use.

I use this ALL THE TIME for my Sony eReader and it also works great for my iPad to convert mobi books that I have accumulated to ePub for easy transfer to my itunes and then to my ipad for reading! And to think they give this away free of charge. Must have for any avid ebook fan. For standard eReaders, it has a built in library function that rivals even the iBooks one. I'd give this 10 stars if I could.

Don't install Calibre if you value the security of your computer.

Simply amazing. The best program for reading/converting/managing/etc eBooks. It's light, fast, and easy. It can open various file extensions (.lit, .pdf, .epub, .mobi, and like a hundred others – most of which I've never even heard of; surprisingly, it apparently can open ZIP/RAR/etc files, although I haven't tried it), although you can specify whether you want to use the internal viewer (which is great) or some other program for each extension. It has a customizable viewer (font size, which most surprisingly don't have the option, except for Calibre). Some features are even better than Adobe Reader (although it doesn't have Adobe's incredible bulkiness). It's even open source (meaning it's free, and developers can view the code, if they want).

A great example of a free, open source application fulfilling a need created by commercial products, Calibre may well be the only e-book app you'll ever need. More than equal in quality and function to anything you'd pay for, it's been designed as the perfect tool and it comes very close.
The main features are that it will catalogue all your e-book files into a virtual library, regardless of format; it will act as a well-appointed viewer for any file format; it will connect to various e-readers; it will convert e-book files of any format to any other format, and it will grab articles from several hundred of the most popular news feeds on the web and turn the feeds into e-books that you can read offline.
I can't say there's much if anything to fault here, really. The creator and developer writes, "Reading is very important to me and one of my goals has always been to prevent either the fragmentation or the monopolization of the e-book market by entities that care solely for short-term goals," and there's nothing to fault there, either.

Great side for E readers, it allows you to better interface with your reader; as well as do conversions.
