Worst service, told someone would be waiting holding our name., nobody holding name, we had to make our way through hundreds of tourists asking all companies. Then the man said my husband had to collect car himself, myself and two children had to wait we weren't allowed in minibus. No where does it state that this would happen, no we are separated, my children are crying! Absolutely shocking!!

This is the WORST car hire company I have ever experienced – stay away!

Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheaters!!!
I can't even describe how unsatisfied I am with this company. One star is definitely too much. They have hidden costs and they don't inform you about this.
For example they charge you 70 euro only for the fact that you're going to an island.
They cooperate with economybookings.com to cheat you. First you pay at economybookings and then Caldera claims you need to pay additional money.
That is a total nightmare.
The "full coverage" doesn't mean anything, they take this money from you and it doesn't cover any damages at all. Overall we payed almost 500 euro for Fiat Panda for 7 days.
Do not recommend!!!

We picked up a Peugeot 208 from Athens International airport. Good quality car, great prices, had no problems.
There are some delays up to 30 min on picking up and dropping off the car, otherwise I would give 5 stars.

Beware of that company Tried with car rental from home to save time. It took over 60 minutes to get the car and the same with delivery. The car was not as promised at the airport. Did not check the car properly as it was very late at pickup. The lady said there were small scratches and that it meant nothing. Luckily we had taken out full insurance, but had to pay 350 euros for a scratch we had not made. It was already there and was obviously old. Now we have to mess with insurance. I stay far away from that rental company. It's just about skinning tourists. All in all, bad experience on an otherwise good holiday.

Although our car was in good condition, the service is atrocious. We waited for the rental man who decided to take the Greek family before us, despite them having just turned up (we had been waiting over 20 minutes already) – and when we told him he didn鈥檛 care. One member of staff when we got to the actual location of the car rental company which isn鈥檛 actually at the airport and terrible attitude to service. We returned the car – and still only one person dealing with collections and returns. Took ages. You could easily miss your plane if you don鈥檛 leave plenty of extra time to compensate for their rubbish service. Avoid like the plague.

We used Caldera at Chania Airport. Very bad agency. Person very rude during the pick up. She threatened us because we didn't want to take her insurance (which was more expensive than a week of rent!!) And then, she wouldn't take our credit card because she said it wasn't a Visa credit card (it is writen Visa on the card though !) ! And when I ask her to take another one, she wouldn't either because it was not the same name as on the driving license ! That was unbelievable ! We do NOT recommand this agency !

We were given a car with an already damaged battery and lost 1 day of our vacation due to this – it cost us a lot of time, phone calls and money to get a new battery – no compensation but for the price of the battery itself 🙁 and no apologies. They said we should be happy that nothing worse happened – not recommended!

At Rhodes the car we booked was an hour walk away while saying it was at the airport. A van came and pick us up after 15-mins. At delivery of the car we had to wait 30-mins for someone to take us to the airport. Not worth your time.

Our flight from Birmingham to Heraklion was delayed by 4 hours. On arrival, with 2 children in tow, we found the Caldera Car Hire booth in the car hire car park. The desk representative was unhelpful, saying that we were more than one hour late, so they had hired the car out to someone else. My wife pointed out there were other cars in the lot that appeared available, but the desk rep said he would rather rent them out to someone else. We rang the booking agents Economy Bookings, who were uninterested. Our friends who travelled with us used a different hire company and this company were aware of the delay, so adjusted the expected arrival time accordingly (that鈥檚 called customer service). The one hour late clause is buried in the small print and was not highlighted to us at the time of booking. In the end, we had to approach another car rental company to hire a car. Caldera are cowboys. There was another family at the desk at the same time who were told the car they had booked was unavailable and they would have to take something considerably smaller, due to over-bookings. Economy Bookings were absolutely useless when it came to assisting us. I would never use either company again.

Do not rent a car from this company
First be aware that the company situated in the airport. It鈥檚 at least a 10 minute drive.
We rented a 9 sitter car with an air condition unit that did not cover the back seats (it felt like a sauna), the window washer did not function, neither did the side mirror nor the radio. Furthermore the gearshift got stuck all the time.
When we return the car we had to wait for over half an hour for a driver to take us back to the airport.
To sum up, we do not recommend this company!!

I have recently hired a car through a third party from Caldera at Chania airport Crete. Despite the agent marking multiple scratches and marks on the paperwork when I collected it and me causing no damage whatsoever the agent then attempted to ascribe dozens of tiny dot sized marks that are all over the car, and were present when I collected it, to me.

I disputed thus with the agent stating the vehicle had completed 30,000km when I collected it and I drove an additional 300km. They stated that they have to take some money from me and this was no doubt a tried and tested method of securing extra money from customers.

After a long and heated argument where I accused them of attempted theft I left with paperwork annotated as 'OK'. I have noticed a pending payment of over 拢670 against my credit card which my credit card company are now investigating and disputing for me.

Against my better judgment I went with this company knowing and expecting problems with them and subsequently have seen reviews with other customers stating the same.

Unimpressed with Caldera.

The one at Heraklion airport… Never again!

We did not receive car we booked. Instead we were given a VW up which was much smaller and a bit of a squeeze.

We luckily bought a child car seat with us because the ones they had stacked up to hire out were filthy.

We had noticed a couple of times during the holiday that the gearbox was a little sticky but lifting the clutch and pushing it down again resolved the problem. On the last day just before we left for the airport it wouldn't come out of reverse. I spent half hour trying then eventually it popped out. This made us late for the airport. We were given the car with half a tank of fuel and returned it with the same. They said that they would charge us 10 euros because it wasn't returned with the same amount of fuel which was total rubbish. When I told them that the fault with the gear box had made us late, he said that I was basically lying and that there was nothing wrong with the car without even getting in it himself to test. I asked him if I should then charge him for the time I spent messing around with the car as it was faulty which he laughed at. We said we wouldn't pay the 10 euros and he said he would have to charge it to our credit card. Totally pointless really as that will cost him for the transaction and we will just do a chargeback on it anyway.

My advice… Always make sure you hire a car with a full tank of fuel

From what I read and have experienced, I can understand that caldera is an agent with multiple locations all over Greece. Most of their locations are either owned by them or managed by them.

From my experience, I did not have any trouble when getting my car from the airport and dropping it off. I used Athens as a base and did many miles all over Greece. My car had approximately 13000 km which is great and the cars were absolutely clean.

I have no problems of their service as staff was very helpful and friendly. Normally I would give 4.5 stars but as I can't then I will give 5 stars to them.

Feedback on my experience with CALDERA SKG
Hello all.
I recently rent a car in SKG with CALDERA. Below my comments about the whole experience.
@Airport : Land in advance. Nobody at the meeting point. tried to call but no answer. Meanwhile the driver arrived. So, I note this at 9 (due to the fact that nobody answered the call).
@Check in : Friendly people, not specially smiling but efficient. No stressing bargain to buy additional insurances or items (such as gps,…). Noted 10.
@Car : Toyota (upgraded) with about 100000km. normal condition and confort. Asked to downgrade to the initial booked type of car but, curiously, couldn't get it.
Another curious think is that they take picts for all the parts of the car. That's new for me but, on another hand, if you rely on them for keeping the picts (what I did), it will avoid any further useless discussion… I note the car 8 out of 10 (too big for me and consuming a bit too of fuel).
@Check out : Need to wait for somebody about 15 minutes. Only one agent and she was busy with other customers. About a very small scratch at the down side of the bumper, they did demonstrate it that it was my issue (not in the initial picture) but – elegantly – told me that it would cost more to manage the file than to make me a 'gift'… What I really appreciated (even if I was fully covered by the rental contract).
I note this section @9 (due to the wait time for return the car.)
Finally, all in all, for sure there are some small efforts to allow CALDERA to become a strong partner but, if the young staff pursue the efforts (as they did during our transaction) it should happens quickly.
Special thanks to Mrs Irini (my main contact at check-IN/OUT).

Beware of this company – do not use, I rented a car from Sun Rise / Caldera Car Hire (same company) Santorini in May 2018. They forged my signature on a damages document and charged my Visa card after I left for damages that were not my responsibility. They do not reply to any communications. Not to be trusted.

I took a car from Chania airport in Crete for me and my family for 9 days in July 2018. The price was lower than others. The car was ok and the collection quite easy but, unfortunately, on car return, I have been charged for additional 100 euros (on top of a total of 256euro prepaid) for a NONEXISTING scratch on the lower part of the front bumper.

I think they use low rental rates to attract customers but later they systematically use to exploint and play on the fact that you didn't check your car so deeply at collection time to claim nonexisting damages.

This is completely unfair!
Spend a litle more on better companies but stay away from these people!

STAY AWAY! These people are pirates. The business model is to lure with low prices and then recoup the price difference to others (and more) through made up charges upon return of the car.

My branch was Caldera car rental at Chania airport, Crete. They will try anything from fuel to damage to soiling to charge you extra – lots extra. Expect long disputes where they push and argue to the point where you have to agree or miss your plane. Expect threatening behaviour from a large group of them. Their price may seem cheaper, but by the time you鈥檝e paid all the made-up charges you will wish you had never heard of them. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

I arranged a rental through a company online and was advised it would be Caldera who would provide the car at Thessaloniki airport.
I had paid for the rental in advance but when I went to collect the car I was persuaded to sign for extra insurance to cover breakdown , accident assistance. I thought the cost was 鈧?19 but misheard and it was actually 鈧?90. I changed my mind 're the extra insurance but was told I could not cancel and the company refused to rent me the car. Despite attempts to get them to be reasonable they refused to rent me the car so I had to rent a car at the airport which cost me 鈧?18!!
Do not use this company – they are only interested in making extra money out of you by scaring you to take extra insurance. They were totally unreasonable and ordered me off the premises in the end telling me to go to the police and complain.

Bonjour, hello

You should not forget any item on the car, bacause you will never ever see it again, I forgot my glasses in the car (on the drived door), I remember really 100000000 %, they sad to me that they didn't find any thing, THEY STEAL MY GLASSES AND I AM REALLY ANGRY BACAUSE IT IS NOT PROFESSIONAL

We have rented a car from Macedonia Int. Airport (SKG), Greece for three days, using, Rentalcars.com and service provided by Caldera, car rental. The car we were given was in a very poor condition and the value for money, was the least possible you could imagine, Given the very tight schedule we had to deal with, we could not request for a replacement.
