Warning:
BUDGET and CARTRAWLER are the same.
Never budget again, they draw money without being able to tell why.
I rented a small suw in Chicago for 3 weeks to hand it in orlando fl.
I could choose between a Subaru forrester or a Mitsubitsi, I chose the subaru.
I was in no doubt that it was a small suw, the lady from the budget tried to give us a bigger car but we would not pay more than we had already paid, so we got a small subaru.
Unfortunately, I did not see that on the unclear gray note where I would write several times, about In the middle of the left side there was "upgrade" but when we had clearly made it clear that we would not pay more, I trusted that everything was okay.
Only when we were home again, I could see that Budget had pulled $ 732.80
We had to pay 300 $ in one-way fee.
The rest $ 432.80 Had to be a mistake.
I called immediately to get an explanation.
An error occurred so I could get 200 $ return. Not anymore.
Then I've tried for almost 2 months to get the $ 232.80 back. Or knowing what I'm paying extra for.
This is not possible, now budget does not respond to my mails anymore.
In an email where budget would send me the contract, I got a contract to another man at another airport. How often does this happen ??? SEE BELOW!

As with other reviews avoid this outfit at all costs .
Unlike other hire companies their agent doesn't tell you about optional insurance add ons. They just add it on knowing after a 9 hour flight you are not going to read everything on the screen.Wouldnt be too bad if they cheated you with a reasonable amount but 拢140 for injury insurance when it is already covered on your travel insurance is just daylight robbery. Do not use these people even if they are the cheapest search. They are dishonest and avoid at all costs

OMG, where do I start. Avoid at all cost, cause this company is 'D Turpin' without the mask. Recently returned from Portugal whereby used their Car Rental company (Rentalcars.com).
I previously purchased the additional insurance cover, only to be told that this is not recognised by them and had to purchase their cover at an additional 拢250.
And this was the big one, had to complete their paperwork which is all in Portuguese, with NO English translation.
Since returning home the company has tried to take further amounts from me. I had paid upfront rental of 拢380, they are requesting a further 拢780, therefore in total for 11 days hire they are wanting 拢950 !!!
When contacting Budget head office complaints department about this, they were not interested in the slightest. Stating you signed for it !!!!
No Supervisor or Manager would take my call. Please, please, please, take note of this, I would hate for this to happen to anyone else.

AVOID BUDGET LUTON AIRPORT LIKE THE PLAGUE
Rented from 10pm on a Thurs to 5am on a Saturday (had a meeting on the Friday) – it was dark at pickup and dropoff.
Car had some existing damage and dropped back with the same existing damage – almost a month later an invoice for "damage" appeared in my email (no prior emails, snail mail etc). Budget then dipped into my debit card the following day and took 拢885.
Budget Customer Service cannot even define what the "damage" was as anything they list over the phone is listed on the rental agreement as previously existing.
The consumer doesnt have to lose as there are small claims courts etc, however if you dont want "the experience" of Court then rent from another company.

I ordered the car few weeks in advance from 8:00. I arrived to Budget at 10:00 and the car was not ready yet. The guy said, please wait 15 minutes until they clean the car. I said please do the paperwork now or give me other car because we are in a hurry. No, just when the car is here.
We got the car 35 minutes later.
After the car renting I saw 90 GBP extra cost at my credit card statement.
It was 30 days to get the answer what is that.
They said I signed the contract with extra insurances, etc… (on top of an originally ordered full cover).
So they don't ask do you want it or not, just try to hide from you and cheat some money from you.

I prepaid for a economy car prior to my fight on the 17th. My plane was delayed by about 90 minutes so I immediately called budget to make sure my rented prepaid car would still be available. I was reassured that yes my car would be waiting for me and not to worry. But of course, when I finally arrived at Detroit the clerk yelled out that there were no vehicles Since it was going on 2 am and I already paid for the said car, I agreed to take a huge passenger van as that was all they had left. Maybe I should explain that this van was a cargo van seating about 15 people. My son and myself were the only travelers and this was a quick trip to Detroit for the funeral of his father so not much luggage. Why would I need a vehicle like this for ? After charging me an additional 100 bucks;off I went with this rod hog.
Why in the world does Budget guarantee you a car yet there are none available?
To me, this is a shoddy business practice and one I have no desire to relive. Back to Enterprise, I go with no looking back at Budget because why bother to get a confirmed car if they don't even know what they have on a lot. Guess its money money money to them and screw the customer. One day maybe they will realize that its customers can make or break them and one negative comment spreads like wildfire

Utter rip-off over refueling costs. I took out a car rental recently at Manchester Airport and opted to return the car full of fuel. The staff at the Budget desk did not inform me that the two fuel stations at the airport were closed due to ongoing development.
When I returned the car, I spent 20 minutes driving around trying to find the petrol stations. I had to give up and returned the car half-full. I subsequently missed my flight and now find that Budget have charged me 拢72.72 + a 拢21.53 supplement plus VAT so a total of 拢113.00 for 25 litres of petrol. This works out at 拢4.52 per litre. Brilliant.
All I got in return to my questions about courtesy and customer service were simpering apologies and jobsworth mutterings about not being able provide a refund and not even being able to forward my complaint up to a manager. They didn't even record my call for "quality" purposes.
So for the record, I resolutely vow never to use Avis or Budget ever again anywhere in the world. I would rather crawl to where I need to get rather than use either of them again.

Very long wait to get our car from Geneva airport.
Lots of extras added to the bill including fuel even though we filled up at the airport before returning the car. I have raised a complaint and sent 3 follow up emails and still have had no reply. I would avoid at all cost. Car rental that should have been 拢150 we have been charged over 拢400 .
They will over charge you and not respond to any correspondence after. Terrible company.

Worst car rental company I have ever had to use. Vegas airport had to wait 30 minutes in line, then another 30 minutes after I started speaking to an agent. You would talk to an agent and they would disappear for 15-20 minutes at a time. Not just my agent, every agent. After an hour I finally went down to my car spot, number C-13. Not only was there no car there, there was not a single car in any of the C stalls. I had to go back and wait in line until 20 minutes later someone showed up with a car and parked it in my spot. This was from 10PM till almost midnight. I was not the only customer waiting an hour, and there were two other people looking for their car in a stall that did not have a car. TERRIBLE BUSINESS

Terrible! I had to wait for nearly two hours in a queue at Marseille Airport to collect my rental car. They only had one person working and it was clearly a peak time. The supervisor was also there but seemed incapable of helping. The car was fine, but then when I returned it, they charged me 143 euro for refuelling an Opel Corsa when I'd returned it fully refuelled! As I didn't have either a receipt or a credit card statement showing the refuelling transaction (I'd paid for the fuel cash and had lost the receipt) they refused to refund me. They ignored my emails, claimed they hadn't received them and eventually put the phone down on me. I will never use this company or Avis who they are affiliated with again.

We hired a car from Budget Dublin 4 July 2018 .
After being scowled at by their staff in the Arrivals area because who didn鈥檛 take out their insurance as we had purchased through our booking agent , told we had to place a 拢1500 deposit against damage which we were aware of . We finally arrived at the car pick up station where the most miserable woman served us , she told us 鈥渢his is a new car , I was the first driver and there was no damage on the car 鈥?,handed me the keys and paperwork and said it鈥檚 in bay 69 .
We found the car and by good fortune ( as it was still daylight ) we carried out a visual inspection , it was soon clear that the car wasn鈥檛 damage free at all, in fact there was two deep scratches upon the bonnet , a number of small small nicks and scratches to the wing and pillar and worst of all a bad crease dent upon the roof . I immediately told the miserable Woman who radios to another guy who came over to view the damage , he got another young Woman to photograph the damage who indeed was quite rude and abrupt , like we were at fault and we hadn鈥檛 even started the bloody car !
It was noted upon the paperwork and we then took the car .
Had it been late at night , or raining we may well have not have noticed the damage and I鈥檓 POSITIVE we would have been blamed for it .
People , please be careful when you hire from this company they are very deceitful and unfriendly .

I had read a lot of reviews about car rental before I booked and they hadn鈥檛 been wonderful with any company so I was wary. However the process with Budget was fairly simple – booked online for what I feel was a fair price. Pick up was where it said it would be, easy to find and fairly prompt, we waited about 30 minutes at the desk with about 4 people in front of us. The lady at the desk in Malta airport was efficient. She offered a damage excess waiver but as we already had our own (much cheaper) insurance we did not take this and I was pleasantly surprised that she didn鈥檛 push this or try to change our minds. My only issue with this is that Budget do not mention excess waivers until you get to the desk so, if I hadn鈥檛 done my research before, I could鈥檝e arrived without insurance and would鈥檝e felt I needed to take out their 拢20 per day insurance as opposed to the 拢10 insurance for the whole trip I had in advance. The documents provided on booking were detailed, so having read them thoroughly, I was expecting to put a hold of 拢1,500 on my credit card because of not taking their insurance. This has been lifted promptly (within a few days) on return of the car in the same condition. We were directed from the desk out to the car park where the man who showed us to our car went over the basics with us but we did feel he could鈥檝e been more thorough in checking the car for previous damage as there were quite a lot of marks – eg under the front of the car which he overlooked. I do worry that if we had been less thorough in ensuring these were documented (and taking photos) we could鈥檝e been blamed for these. The quality of the car was good and as advertised in terms of class of car, low mileage, clean and we had no problems with it through the trip. Drop off was simple and speedy and overall we had a good experience with this company therefore I would use them again.

Recently rented a near new Hyundai from Putney, London. Whilst loading a box in the boot I rested it on the rear bumper , as you do when you are 60 and need a break. This resulted in two very slight scuff marks on the rear bumper . Upon returning the vehicle I was informed this was chargeable damage and the resultant quote was 280 pounds. I feel this is just a method to raise money and the repair will probably not be down. I don鈥檛 own a car and have always used budget. No longer, it is goodbye from me and goodbye to Avis as well.

Beware the hidden extras !!!. These guys will assume you want all the extras – without explaining that there's extra charges. These they present in a nice complicated way when you drop the car back – along with a bill. Stay away from these guys. Crooks

Booked a large car in advance for a remote location in Chile for a family trip of a lifetime. A large car was needed as we were five adults plus sigificat luggage. On arrival at the airport I was offered a tiny car that would not fit four adults plus luggage. No other cars were offered and no apology.
Upon my return I complained to Avis / Budget Customer Service and did not receive a response for 3 months with no satisfactory resolution.
I will not be using this company again, personally or professionally. I will also take steps to ensure the company of 200k consultants globally I work for are aware of how awful the customer service is and recommend that alternative suppliers are used.

Awful service, we have got the ordered car class only after a scandal.Tried to give us an old car with broken airbag panel. Although we had a full insurance with zero liability, they still reserved 700 euros on the credit card.

Can only agree with all that has gone before. We pre hired a car from Nice Airport and ended up paying double the advertised price. Almost 拢700 for 5 days car hire by the time all the "hidden" extras had been added in (and for a Ford Focus which was not what we had ordered) Staff at Nice rental desk must be well trained to add every conceivable optional extra they can think of and a few more that they dream up. It's a brilliant scam. It involves you being tired after a long journey, feeling desperate to get out of the airport and onto the open road, children in tow who are tired and keep asking "how much longer?" A mile long queue behind you. The Budget staff at the desk must be well trained to detect all the signs of someone who will be an easy target for all those hidden extras. If you want to stay within budget then avoid Budget.

We booked a budget car through Holiday Autos who were fine. The problem started when we got to the pick up desk at Malaga Airport.
Our pick up time was 11.30pm and we actually arrived at the desk at 11pm.
There was a huge queue so decided to take a ticket which you have to do.
No other rental company had queues as long!!!!
After an hours wait we started talking to other disgruntled customers one of whom had already waited one and three quarter hours.
We eventually got our car at 12.40am. No apologies for wait.
The only reason I did not give it one star is because the car was clean and acceptable and the person who checked us back in at Malaga was polite and came promptly.

Warning! Rented a car in Memmingham Germany in April 2018. I never buy any extra insurance. Asked at desk if I wanted it, when I refused I was pushed quite hard to accept both CDW and theft insurance – he wasn't taking no for an answer. I point blank refused (I have CDW insurance cover independently). I'm home to find both insurances added to my credit card. Also a large re-fuelling bill when we filled it up close to the airport. I've asked them to confirm how much fuel they put in it – no response. Now 10 days into a complaint and its still "under review". I'll post again on this shortly but I sense the complaints line is very used to these calls – not friendly – and very quick to read you their small print on time to deal with complaints (10 days).
9 May18 Updating this as promised. Made 3 phone calls over 3 weeks, each time it was clear nothing had happened. They had contacted the desk in Memmingham and had no response. They are now outside their 10/15 day SLA for responding. Called again today, long wait while they checked, obviously still no progress so it was passed up to a manager, endless wait, then confirmation they will refund everything. I sense they did this because they didn't feel they could tell me still no response from the local desk. If they had received something, why had they not contacted me? So resolved, after a battle. Incidentally Barclaycard Visa v helpful and had a process one could follow in event of unauthorised payments taken from card.

The JFK office is terrible!! We booked through priceline which was fine. Arrived at the office to a very long line. It took almost 45 minutes. Then after the paperwork was done we were told to wait for 10-15 minutes as they verbally advised people where there cars were. During our wait, they inadvertently wiped out our paper work and it had to be redone. We then had to wait again while the front office staff waited to be told where our car was. All in all it took almost an hour and half to get a car that we had already paid for and for which they had all of our information.
