I bought a Granfos Pump to replace my 2.5 year old Salamander, which broke down due to a stainless steel clip snapping. The Clip holds a plastic disk on the end of a shaft and with the clip broken it worked it's way along the shaft, and due to it's high spin rate, welded itself to the plastic cover in which it was housed. The Grandfos's business end is made of brass, not plastic! the Grandfoss cost me 拢188 from Plumbworld, a replacement Salamander of the same rating was 拢312. I fitted my new pump and all was well, except for the pump pulsing after the shower was turned off. I went onto the Grandfos Website and followed the simple instructions to Illuminate possible causes and learned that I don't have a thing called a Sussex Valve on my Hot Cylinder, which means that air bubbles which form in the Hot water cylinder can can build up and get into the pipework, which can cause the pump to pulse. I also discovered that by fitting a none return valve on the flow side of the pump should help with the problem. I ordered a 22mm none return valve from Toolstation which was less than 拢6, fitted it and it resolved the pulsing problem. Oh the Grandfos comes with a 5 year warranty, where most others come with a 1 or 2 year warranty.
I have had a Grandfos pump on my central heating system for 10 years and it has been trouble free,
So thank you Grandfos, it's good to know that there are manufacturers who still build products to last.
