I recently reviewed the unpleasant experience I had with goldcar. They responded but did not address the two points I made. The review was on their sharp practices and should warn anyone to keep away from these people.
1.They took the money without any communication with me. They still have not communicated directly with me.
2. I did not damage the car. Their Representative was shown the damage on the bumper by me on hiring in Alicante airport; he acknowledged it to us and also took a photograph of it, and said this was now on record. They are ignoring this point and their grab of my hard earned money was a multiple of the rental fee that they charged me. I barely used the car.
Goldcar please talk to your rep see the photo he took and refund me the money taken wrongly

On collection was given a really scratched car, they itemised some of the scratches but said the others didn't matter, on the return of the car they said it was fine then took 400 Euros from my credit card.
They refuse to give it back even though all of the scratches were there on pick up.

On my arrival in Marseille (France), the Goldcar agent tried to sell me its own insurance. I said that I was already insured, but he forced me to pay extra insurance at the desk. After several unsuccessfull e-mails with Goldcar, I decided to start a claim on the website of Weclaim :

鈥?And I won !

When renting a car from Gold Car at Mallorca, I was given a car full of dents. These I noted on the contract which was signed. At return they first refused to inspect the car, and said just put the keys in the box. However, I insisted and in the end they sent a guy out. The car was then accepted as returned in the same condition as it was picked out. At home, they removed the deposit reservation, but a few days after they charged my account with 420 euros. Even though I have signed documents and photos showing that the dents were there at pickup, they refuses to pay back the money.

I booked a car at Lanzarote airport through Auto Europe and had paid Auto Europe for the hire. No problems with the booking or picking it up and the staff were really helpful.

I didnt buy the extra excess insurance as I bought my own – its generally cheaper.

When getting the car, the operator told me I would be charged for a full tank of diesel which worked out at 鈧?6. I was then promised that any unused fuel would be refunded! All very good I thought!

So when I dropped off the car at the airport in the multi storey car park to another operator there, I showed her how much was left in the car. It was 25%.
I was expecting a refund of about 鈧?1.

Instead, when I checked my credit card they had taken a further 鈧?3 out off of my card (the one which had had 鈧?100 locked off as a deposit.

I tried phoning but the Goldcar operator from the UK when I returned home could not clearly explain why the second amount had been taken out without my permission.

I had to contact my credit card to explain what had happened and got the amount refunded by the credit card company!!!

I would advise to be very careful when booking with this company – and even warn that if possible to avoid.

Oh and the car was in exactly in the same condition on return as when I collected it!

Oh and needless to say I never got my 鈧?1 refund for the remaining fuel either!!!!

For your reference Goldcar the contract was 10979615 if you want to look into this with your right to reply! Look forward to the reason why!??

I rented a car for a week in Malta and was given a minivan covered with scratches and dents, which were duly noted during the signout. I did not take the insurance because I have never damaged a rental car in 40 years of renting, and the insurance they offered was almost 50% of the rental cost. When I returned the car, the agent looked around the car until he found a barely visible scratch on the black plastic bumper which was there when I took out the car but not marked among all the other, much more visible damage. He charged me euro 520 for the scratch and "loss of use" (as if they were actually going to replace the bumper!!!). When I refused to accept the claim he said that would mean the car would be marked as never returned, and they would just keep charging me. When i wrote "rejected" on the form he crossed it out and wrote over. When I said I would not give him my credit card he said they would take my entire deposit (of euro 2,500). Moral of the story — avoid Goldcar at all costs. If you consider renting from them, add the insurance to the cost of the rental before you choose the company because otherwise they will add outrageous and false charges that (in my case at least) more than doubled the total cost.

-Wrong Car
-Deception: The company told me that I was lying when I told them that I have an insurance via Wisecars. Had to pay huge amount of deposit. Furthermore they told me that the car does not have even one scratch and therefore it is not worth checking it before my signatature. I did and it had like 10.
-Unfriedly (Customer Service never replied via mail. Disinterest on the phone)
-Incompetent
-HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS FOR MY 1500鈧?DEPOSIT! I only got it back in the end thanks to Mastercard.

Do not use Goldcar they will add on insurance without asking or telling you and just take your money. I just returned from Palma Majorca. The pick up process is very poor had to wait over an hour and this was in November. I would hate to be there in July or August. When I finally got to the desk I was told there was a deposit of 223 euros for the fuel which I would have to put on my credit card. I double checked with the lady at Goldcar that this would ALL be refunded when I returned the car full. She confirmed yes. It was only when I got home and had my refund which was only 114 euros. I am now told the other 109 euros was for their insurance. This was insurance I didn't ask for or was even told about. It was just added on without my knowledge. Now refusing to refund my 109 euros. Having worked in the UK travel industry for over 20 years and hired cars all over the globe never have I been conned like this before. Do yourself a favour and use one of the more respected brands. I've used Avis before in Majorca and had no problems and not had to wait more than 15mins to pick up the car. They might be slightly more expensive at the booking stage but overall will be cheaper than Goldcar. DO NOT USE GOLDCAR you'll regret it!

I've picked the car up from Bologna Airport. All attendants are polite and sympathetic. Fast pick up and drop off. Thanks for their attention.
