Go Buses

My family is quite big and we have two annual vacations where we travel to a completely different state. Because I have 5 other siblings, their partners and some of their kids along with my parents, an SUV or a Van would not be sufficient so we always get a bus from Go Buses. Been a customer of theirs for 2 years and their services are still awesome as ever. We always get very clean buses with kid friendly seats as well since we have a couple of kids who are below 4. The drivers are always very respectful and polite, doesn't create any issue and drives safely too. Seating is comfortable and there is a lot of space too. Always happy to travel with them!

I love the routes, and the space in the Bus.

Like everything except the non refundable fee policy. Drivers should not be on cell phones when driving

I regularly travel by bus between NYC and VA. On the ground staff and drivers are very good. Travel is usually comfortable and efficient. Three stars because if anything goes wrong the people who staff the customer service office are so horrifically indifferent to providing any kind of support to the customers it is laughable. I have traveled on this route for years. If everything goes smoothly, it鈥檚 a great experience. If anything goes wrong, you are on your own. There is no customer support or any commitment to customer satisfaction.

Solid 4-star experience. Rode round trip from suburban DC (VA) to NYC. Buses were super punctual in both directions, drivers were professional and got us to our destination safely. We stopped for 10 mins on the way up on the NJ turnpike, and came nonstop on the way back. Just about 4 hours each way.

On the negative side, the buses鈥?interiors were a tad on the old side, not uncomfortable or dirty, but a bit dated. Don鈥檛 expect a brand new luxurious coach. The WiFi was also pretty bad, but that鈥檚 not a problem if you have enough data on your plan.

Good value for under $60 round trip.

Comfortable bus ride Boston-NYC. About one hour delayed but that was due to snowfall and not the bus company's fault.

Bus broke down with an engine fire. Stranded on freeway 20 min outside NY for over 2 hours. No communication was made to tell passengers what was going on. Finally a state trooper was able to share with us what was happening. Made it 3 hours past the scheduled time into NY. Missed my afternoon plans in NY. Extremely disappointed with this bus trip and how passengers were treated.

Comfy bus, free water, great cancellation/reservation change policy, and friendly drivers. The WiFi could be better, but this is typical of regional bus service.

I very carefully read the FAQ of a competitor and found out that you can't cancel and get your money back on the day you are travelling, but that they do have a true standby policy so that your ticket applies to another bus later or earlier that day. Your money is not out the window. Silly me, I didn't read yours until after I bought tickets. I missed the bus by a couple minutes, so that money is completely gone. You should be clear in the FAQ that there is NO standby policy. It's quite misleading to say that there is, and then proceed to say that you need to buy a new ticket if you standby. That is not a standby policy — it's the opposite.

I had a bad experience with GoBus in both directions. The first bus was late over more than two hours due to the driver calling in sick late. They were not going to let anyone on the earlier bus that came to our location an hour after we were meant to depart until the last minute. The bus was not actually a GoBus operated vehicle. The driver was safe and friendly but the bus did not have working wifi and the charging of devices intermittently worked. The return trip had a rude driver and local attendant. They made us stand in the rain while they first loaded all of the luggage. Then after we loaded the driver and local attendant were short and unwilling to troubleshoot why the wifi and electronic charging at the seats did not work. Very frustrating. DO NOT DEPEND ON WIFI OR CHARGING on these buses. DO NOT EXPECT friendly or helpful customer service. Would not recommend.

The driver was excellent. I only had an issue with the wavy ride. I felt as if I had motion sickness so I just tried to sleep the whole ride. I will never sit on the front seat again.

inaccurate times of arrival:
I purchased a ticket scheduled for a particular arrival time that cost more than others departure/arrival times because I was under the impression that it would allow me to arrive at a decent hour that would be convenient for me to make further travel arrangements. At some point, I realized there was no way we were going to arrive on time because we had yet to arrive at the first scheduled stop and we were way behind schedule. I asked the woman across the aisle from me if she had ridden with Go Buses before and she gave a resigned laugh and said from her experience, it was par for the course for Go Buses coaches to arrive many *hours* after advertised schedules. We both noted that it would be useful for the company to let customers know an 8 pm arrival time is in actuality, 10 times out of 10, 10:45 pm. Very frustrating. I confirmed with the driver that the coach was in fact behind the advertised schedule. When I asked him what the ballpark expected time of arrival was, so that I may inform my family and colleagues accordingly, he said he did not know.
At each stop, there was no announcement, audible or written, of the stop name. There was not clear signage at the stop itself (and the view out the window is obstructed given the "branding" of the coaches). This left passengers in the dark and confused. An improvement would involve an announcement of each stop through the vehicle's p.a. system.

needless waste:
I sat near the back of the bus and on my way to the seat I noted that each seat had a plastic bag hanging from the arm rest, presumably to collect rubbish. The bus ride I embarked on was at about 50% occupancy. Plastic bags are harmful to the environment and it appears each of these [mostly] unused bags were discarded (and sent to landfill) after our journey. I realize the bus itself causes a lot of environmental harm given its consumption of fossil fuel, but why add to that environmental degradation unnecessarily? An improvement would be to remove these plastic bags from the equation. If there needs to be a receptacle to collect rubbish during the bus ride, perhaps one large one either near the driver or elsewhere would be sufficient?

The payment methods/privacy concerns:
Why does one need to set up an account to purchase a bus ride ticket? Also, customers would appreciate the option to buy a ticket with cash. I understand that the company thinks it is "helping" people by offering online payments, but it should know that the option to pay online should be supplemental and not as a substitute to cash payments.

When posing this question to a representative of Go Buses, she became very indignant and retorted that buying a bus ticket is just like buying a plane ticket and "identities need to be verified." With all due respect: no, riding a bus is NOT the same as buying a plane ticket.

When purchasing the ticket online, I specifically opted out of receiving further adverts from Go Buses. That selection was not respected and my inbox was inundated with many email messages from Go Buses about travel to states that are not even in my proximity. Quite frankly, even the subsequent emails I received after purchasing a ticket that were specific to the purchase (and there were many) were duplicative in nature, off-putting and unnecessary.

The bus ride:
whether intentional or not, the driver turned off the passengers controls of the overhead lights and ventilation. I was on a bus ride where a majority of it occurred during the evening. I also had a lot of reading and an overhead light would have been more than useful. During the first bus stop (hours after departure), I asked the driver to relinquish control of the overhead lights and ventilation to the passengers. He fiddled around with the settings on his console and was able to correct the situation after a few minutes.

We had a wonderful trip from D.C. to New York and back. The buses were pretty clean, drivers very polite and friendly. The location we arrived at was a good place to start our trip and the final destination happened to be not far from our home. Good value for money!

Bus from Cambridge to NYC was about 30 minutes late. I called the customer service number and was pleased that someone actually answered and provided an accurate ETA. Once we arrived at Riverside I expected some attempt to get us back on schedule but there was no sense of urgency from the staff although they were courteous. Delay did translate into similar delay arriving into the city. Also bus was stifling hot for the majority of the trip.

Bus from NYC to Cambridge was on time and very comfortable temperature wise. Everything was much better until the arrival at Riverside. There was a couple with a young child who to a bit longer then everyone to pack up and depart the bus. There was a secondary driver (who had driven until CT and then was replaced) who started berating the family for being slow and was very aggressive. The poor family was very apologetic and was moving as fast as they could with a small child but the previous driver continued to verbally assault them stating that he wanted to go home. It was extremely disappointing after a fairly pleasant ride.

Also a minor thing is that the drivers don't assist with luggage or communicate anything with the passengers. They do stop along the ride sometimes to use the restroom and sometimes to change drivers which are totally legitimate but it would be nice if they told the passengers why they were stopping.

TW1 really needs a double decker! The kids are crammed in like sardines… that cannot be safe 🙁
Other than that my son says it is great.
